The Ground Zero mosque must be built

What does it matter if there is? Calling devout muslims to prayer is not an act of terrorism or even something one could rationally associate with terrorism. Only with the belief that the muslim religion is somehow responsible for terrorists and terrorism could that have any justification as symbolic of something dreadful.

It doesn't matter - but that "call to prayer" comment and the imagery that accompanied it suggests that the proposed mosque amounts to some sort of "Izlamising of the WTC area" when it is in fact going to be a tasteful modern building in keeping with the character of the surrounding area.

In essence:

People don't understand that there is and has-been a sizeable muslim population in NYC for years, and that they are integrated into the fabric of life there. It's not some sort of jarring area where you turn a corner and suddenly you're in Iran.

So that would mean if a gay muslim couple walked in to hear the call to prayer what irrational thing would occur?

Honey, Ive got news for you; there are gay imams. One of them is an old friend of mine.

Another stereotype bites the dust.

People who know NYC understand it. It's these fu##ing outsiders who don't have a clue.

Yes, I did. What is your point, if you have one? The muslim view on homosexuality is totally irrelevant and does not point to an association with it and terrorism.

Your making a point that assumes everyone against the mosque, are terrorists and how irrational it is. You pose the question and then answer it based on the way YOU think! You nor anyone else knows what each individuals reasons are for objecting to it are.

I was merely pointing to one irrationality of what muslims believe on the subject of homosexuality. Peculiar how I havent seen any of you Bigot PHd's calling the muslims bigots! after all every one of you is pro-homosexual. That said, Im sure all of you Bigot haters will show an equal amount of hate when the Homosexual muslim couple gets kicked-out of there because they are homosexual.

Different strokes for different bigots, Marc. Post a few hundred threads focusing on those very separate topics and we can all share in the outrage. Then you can have your cake.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I thought that sharia law didnt allow it? I heard this Imam wanted this mosque abide by this law.

I wonder if asking (again) what reasonable arguments there are against the mosque will result in an answer.

Marc, sitting there and trying to claim that the bigots aren't bigots when their arguments so clearly are derived from prejudice is all well and good - but it would help if you had some substance to support your defence.

I thought you were one of the people who believed in the idea that if it quacked like a duck... Well these people sound like bigots, their words are bigoted, they just might be bigots!

If you disagree - feel free to explain WHY you disagree. Because disagreeing for the sake of disagreement simply isn't convincing (or compelling).

Um, what? My point is that being 'sensitive' to having a new mosque built in the vicinty of Ground Zero (as I understand it 2 blocks away or thereabouts) is bigoted. I explained why. Can you explain how you can be 'sensitive' about having this new mosque built without pandering to some bigotry about muslims and terrorism (ie that mosques make on think of terrorists for any other than irrational reasons that have no grounding in the reality of what a muslim is or represents)

I have also explained already that there are points of view that muslims uphold that I don't agree with, the same is true of all religious persons but again, SO WHAT? That's not the objection to the mosque, no one is objecting on the grounds that the muslim religion itself is irrational because that right there would be totally unconstitutional. So, again, what is your 'rational' opposition to the building of the mosque that doesn't rely on some perceived sensitivity. What sensitivity could there possibly be to the symbolism of a mosque and its relationship to muslims that doesn't involve picturing muslims as necessarily terrorists?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Generalities again? All who disagree with you is a Bigot.

Do we really need to resort to stereotypes?

There's no hypocrisy where the themes are not relevant to each other.

You might try handing out a little of your sensitivities out to the 9/11 families. So sensitive but yet so bigoted.
