The Ground Zero mosque must be built

Picture this. On the anniversary of 9/11 and they are reading the names of those who died. All of a sudden out rings this:

It really does boil down to sensitivity on both sides.

It won't happen - it is too far away from ground zero even if the mosque was in the open, but it isn't. It's being built INSIDE another building and no call to prayer will be heard beyond its walls. HOWEVER, even if it was possible to hear, that is only a problem if the call to prayer itself makes you think of terrorism - it's should not and will not unless you have an irrational association with a muslim call to prayer and terrorism because you believe the muslim religion is responsible for terrorism or some such thing.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Following right-wing media who pushed the claim without providing evidence, Fox News falsely reported that the Muslim community center and mosque set to be built near Ground Zero will open on the anniversary of 9-11. However, Daisy Khan, executive director of one of the organizations leading the project, told Media Matters that the allegation is "absolutely false" and that "the timeline has yet to be determined."

Which begs the question why a small loud-mouthed group of people are trying to cut out law-abiding people simply because they hold their religion to be responsible for the attacks.

Answer - they are irrational bigoted people.

There you go again. Your infamous Bigot BANNER! Placing all who disagree with your pov is a Bigot. Do you know these people? No! do you know their names? No! So your totally uninformed on who these people are. Which you said earlier that uninformed people are usually Bigots.

Yes. There were muslims in the buildings on 9/11 and they too were murdered by those @$holes.

Exactly.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

What makes you think there will be a "call to prayer" there?

What does it matter if there is? Calling devout muslims to prayer is not an act of terrorism or even something one could rationally associate with terrorism. Only with the belief that the muslim religion is somehow responsible for terrorists and terrorism could that have any justification as symbolic of something dreadful.

The bigots are working there way up to that. That's what happens when you allow bigots to run public sentiment.

They're just loud. When the place gets built, they'll find something else to be loud about and continue showing their true colors. Sadly, many people out there are still easily swayed by such idiocy.

There's a surprise - I'm sure the naked emperor will not believe it however.

So that would mean if a gay muslim couple walked in to hear the call to prayer what irrational thing would occur?

Did any Muslims die on 9/11 that weren't terrorists?

Yes, I posted several of their names and bios on an earlier thread. Their families and memories are the ones being truly hurt in all this rancor to marginalize a Muslim response against terrorism and divion. No one seems to care about them.

what I don't get and something I didn't know before today was that there is already an Islamic center that is even closer to Ground Zero... why is no one protesting about that??

Actually, there are two masjids in the immediate area of the sacred hole. I've mentioned this about a half dozen times this week alone. No one seems to mind them, but, in fact, no one seemed to mind the Park51 project (which, btw, had been under development since BEFORE 9/11) prior to Islam hating Pamela Geller ginning up a furor. Even Fox News benignly interviewed the imam and his wife about it months before without any outrage or accusations. It's scary how easily the public can be manipulated.

I have been trying to find an official news source that supports what Paul has said but I can only find blogs that are talking about this...

well, there is the NY Post..

The opening date shall live in infamy: Sept. 11, 2011. The 10th anniversary of the day a hole was punched in the city's heart.

What are you on about? I don't agree with the muslim pov any more than I agree with the christian pov on lots of issues but that has nothing whatsover to do with whether or not the religion itself postulates terrorism. It doesn't, period.

It would be fun to know what percentage of his posts contain the word "Bigot".

He is unreal.... as well as limited in his vocabulary. :bonk:

Exactly. I do find it interesting how this is flaring up and being mostly capitalized upon by one political faction more than the other. Food for thought.

Yes, I did. What is your point, if you have one? The muslim view on homosexuality is totally irrelevant and does not point to an association with it and terrorism.
