The Ground Zero mosque must be built

Ok you muslims want a church built right across from the most horrific tragic event to happen to the innocent people of the USA then fine. I want to build a Christian church right across the street from Mecca and Medina mosques now and I also want to know why all your muslim countries do not allow freedom of other religions to be practiced in their countries and especially in Morocco! Stop the double standard of being a hypocrite toward the USA and clean up your own back yards first. This idea of building a mosque at Ground Zero is nothing more than a middle finger in the face or eye of America and a way to promote this horrible thing called a peaceful religion which it is not,and I have read your Koran it promotes violence, it is nothing more than a political doctrine of mind control. And sharia law is just another tool of the muslim religion to oppress us all so stop the nonsense now, over 80% of NY is opposed to building it and so is the rest of the USA! Unreal what muslims will try to do to others, no compassion or sensitivity or common sense at all!

I've posted photos of churches in several Muslim countries since this topic started, so has Sandinista. Having lived all over parts of the Muslim world with a Christian husband whom I was married to for nearly 30 years, I know you're just parrotting what you've heard, not what you know about religious practice in Muslim countries. I've attended church in Morocco, where I own a home, spent much of my childhood there, and have participated in many Catholic church weddings over decades. People in Morocco don't wate time worrying about what faith you practice.

As for the Saudis, Islam is not a foreign religion, not defined by the practices of certain Arab monarchs. They are not the leaders of Islam, nor a template of public policy for us, so what they do there has no bearing on what we do here. However, it's on the record that the Pope and the King discussed the conditions for building churches in Saudi, and there was one condition the Pope refused to meet - officially acknowledgiing that Muhammad (pbuh) was a prophet of God. He won't do it.

It's not too much to ask that the faith of the host country be respected, afterall, Muslims revere Jesus as an exalted prophet, and honor Mary, Moses, Abraham, Noah, and many others as chosen by God to serve Him and carry His Message of peace and unity for all mankind.

It is really unfortunate that this topic keeps getting bogged down in either rabid anti-Muslim diatribes or holier than thou diatribes accusing anyone who is not 100 percent ok with this mosque being accused of everything from bigotry to Fascism.

OMGoodness. I feel so stupid right now. Why did I think that respectful, open debate was possible in the OT? Hahaha

Whoops. I better get back to my liberal left-wing doublespeaking someplace else. Ciao

Without that false label, it would be so much harder to generate outrage.

Even the supporters of the mosque have adopted the label though, like in the OP's headline. It's like they haven't noticed that it was termed that with a specific agenda and they're playing into it.

Not sure about the facism, but bigotry is inescapable, whether you recognize it in yourself or not. There is nothing significant in building a mosque within the vicinity of Ground Zero. I would have a problem personally with any specific identification with a religious group AT Ground Zero, but that is a separate and unrelated issue. You can ONLY BE SENSITIVE to having a mosque in this situation, on private property if you automatically associate mosques with terrorists. Mosques have nothing to do with terrorists, no matter whether those who commit terrorists acts claim to be muslims, which they do, or not. Mosques are places of worship and prayer and the only thing one can be reminded of by the symbolism of a mosque is a respectful worshiping muslim. Any other association paints all muslims with the terrorist brush and furthermore that the muslim religion is a religion dedicated to the disruption and elimination of all alternate views by violent and terrorist means. Is that what you believe? At least be honest about it, if only to yourself.

As to the 'situation' question of the mosque, when you consider the real estate values of the area in question, and the fact that this mosque is meant to cater to those who live and work in this particular area, the availability of suitable real estate is necessarily limited - the idea that it might be relocated to an area more 'suitable' is totally ridiculous.

Thats because everyone knows in the end it will be a Mosque...... do you really think in a decade it will be a place "The NY community" enjoys?

That would be like an Evangelical Church opening up a "community center" and pretending it's sole purpose is to "bring people together."

REALITY CHECK.
