The Ground Zero mosque must be built

Agreed.

And why are people complaining that we can't build churches in Mecca and whatnot? That's not the USA. THIS IS. The people in the USA pride themselves on their constitution, right? Something about free speech, freedom to practice religion and what not? Don't Americans claim that the USA is the best country in the world or something like that?

Time to actually back that up, I guess. Show that you can be the metaphorical 'bigger man'.

Nah that's just Sean Hannity :P

I understand both sides of the argument, I would like to know how far away from ground zero would it have to be considered respectful.

You know what would be disrespectful? A mosque that structurally overshadowed the not-yet-built 9/11 memorial. But this proposed islamic center doesn't do that. It will fit in well in the existing neighborhood and abide by all existing codes.

Somehow, I have a feeling that for Sean Hannity and many Americans, they will only consider it respectful if it was built outside the borders of the US.

I understand that it's not within the same block, which seems like a fair boundary to me. But then I'm neither American, nor a Muslim and I didn't know anyone involved in the attack so it's easy for me put forward a meaningless opinion.

Yeah, there have been plenty of other loud protests lately about other locations which have no justifications for being denied.
