The Ground Zero mosque must be built

thank you. i think they will do a very large volume of business. the muslim community will be outraged & they will be nothing they can do about it. building the center there is absolutely the right of the developer. its also the street vendors right to sell their products infront of the center. both are legally ok to do so. both are insensitive towards others & in bad taste. many people have voiced their opposition to the center being built there. why not show respect towards others feelings & build it elsewhere?

Street vendors have the right to do whatever is lawful and will do so, regardless of the supposed sensibilities of anyone else. What has that got to do with the right of a muslim to build a mosque wherever they see fit in accordance with all planning laws and applicable statutes? Nothing. What lack of respect is there in building a place of worship two blocks from Ground Zero?

Many Muslims are against the mosque. Are they all bigoted Muslim haters?

where does "many muslims" come from two people interviewed on npr, who are completely full of shite?

ms bolourchi says "Well, I think that we have to take responsibility for what has happened."...no, we don't. i don't have anything to do with terrorism, 99.9% of muslims don't have anything to do with terrorism, but if she wants to be a martyr for other people's sins, that's her problem. leave everyone else the hell out of it. and she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about with feisal rauf either...long before 9/11, he was doing community outreach between muslims and non-muslim americans. he was handpicked by the state dept of both the bush admin, and the obama admin to go overseas and talk about tolerance and islam in america. regardless of who she knew that died that day, it doesn't mean her opinion that every muslim in new york should accept being branded with a big, red T on their forehead for terrorist is valid.

You got it. It's insensitive because many people can't tell the difference.

Pandering to bigots who can't tell the difference serves no one well and harms the constitutional rights of others. Is that a reasonable response to 9/11?

i think you're wrong. there will be no reason to move. they will have plenty of people coming to buy food. why? its dicky. just like insisting on building the center close to the 911 site is dicky.

From personal experience knowing enough Muslims, I know that they have no problem tolerating pork being eaten by non-Muslims right in front of them. Even while they're fasting during Ramadan.

If the vendor has a good business setup, then awesome.

I believe I've heard one of the main goals of the location + insistence is in finding healing and crossroads that help bring people together. Too bad the haterz don't want to see that- which is as you say it... dicky.

Lest we be reminded of non-Muslims that looked Muslim that got targeted in this country not soon thereafter. Pretty suggestible, paranoid people in this country do these things. Oh the perils of not having a socially educated society.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Heres another one that is at least trying to speak out.

equally as full of it as the npr interviewees. raheel needs to be reminded that her holy book also says that the only person responsible for their crimes is the person who committed them. collective guilt and therefore collective punishment of those who have done nothing wrong is not an islamic concept.

Its much ado about nothing IMO. More fake outrage generation.

as well, my husband even petted a pig at the county fair. it was a couple months after he'd arrived here, and he'd never seen one in real life before. he's maliki, no problem with touching the animal. we just don't eat them.

sensitivity to what? my and others refusal to hang my head in shame as a terrorist because we all pray in the same direction, but other than that have NOTHING in common with the murderers of 9/11?

by this logic anyways, no man should ever be permitted to even walk within 4 blocks of a rape crisis center. we all know who commits the majority of sexual assaults in this country...

it's sandinista with a !, like the clash album. and it's a staged picture with a toy gun, of a a friend who wanted to express how far he would go to save his cat from any harm. he loves his pet.

now who's full of shite?

I believe other posters have gone off such a tangent on user nicks here when faced with the silliness of their own positions.
