I'm trying to do some research on private medical insurance in Rhode Island. I've been offered a full-time job but medical coverage is not included. I'm now trying to weigh the options and find out what a single person like me can get for medical coverage and how much it would cost. That would help influence my decision and formulate a plan.

Can anyone venture a guess as to how much Private insurance would cost (ballpark) for a single and fairly healthy person?

Depends on age, pre-existing conditions and what sort of plan you want. Expect to spend around 150-200/mo on the low end with an HSA and large deductible.

I'm 31 and don't have any pre-existing medical conditions. I just do the regular annual check-up and that's about it. Thank you for your help.

Wasn't even concerned about heath insurance prior to about 1983, average office visit was five bucks, ten for a specialists. New born with prenatal care, delivery, and a three day hospital stay was a flat 450 bucks.

So what happened since then? Nobody really seems to know, same clinic, same doctors, got a fever a couple of years ago. Wife insisted I go to urgent care, plenty of that going around take a couple of Tylenol, drink plenty of liquids, and go to bed. Was over it the next day, but 460 bucks poorer as we haven't met out deductible yet. Even with worse case inflation, that bill shouldn't have been no more than 15 bucks.

Pre-condition? Son with a precondition was kicked off my health insurance policy, Reagan said we needed less government, and got it. I sure didn't like less government, but would have if I lived on Wall Street.

Also see a lot more electronic toys at the clinic, took my blood pressure, digital display showed 155, that can't be right, saw the old one on the wall, insisted they use that, took an older nurse to use it, came out as a 110 where it should be. That is one thing that changed, a lot of new electronic toys.

While Obama is insisting on everyone having health insurance, neither he nor congress is looking over the last 30 year history of these drastic price increases. Wouldn't be bad if my paycheck went up 50-90 times, but it didn't. Some claim malpractice, in checking out in my state, only 100 claims where made last year, only ten of them got a few bucks. The malpractice insurance companies have the very best attorneys on retainer, you also find that true with home and auto insurance.

This use to be a great country, somehow the crooks took over.
