So as far as I was concerned I had my age appropriate immunizations up to date

MMR

Tdap

Varicella

I have been to two civil surgeons who are stating I now need Hep A and Hep B immunizations

Anyone else heard of this? Someone mentioned it could be a state thing?

I did try to post in another thread but after no responses I thought it was better to start my own

In canada hep B is given as kids. Not sure about UK! Its on the panel physicians requirements for the canadian panel. Do you guys have a UK civil surgeon office you go to? they might list the ones you need on their website.

This is the one for Canada ages 18 to 64 are required to have these shots for immigration.

I cant edit my other post sorry!

""" What vaccines are required for U.S. immigration?

At this time,* vaccines for these diseases are currently required for U.S. immigration:

•Mumps

•Measles

•Rubella

•Polio

•Tetanus and diphtheria

•Pertussis

•Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib)

•Hepatitis A

•Hepatitis B

•Rotavirus

•Meningococcal disease

•Varicella

•Pneumococcal disease

•Seasonal influenza

*On December 14, 2009, the human papillomavirus (HPV) and zoster vaccines were removed from the list of required vaccines for immigrant applicants. All other vaccinations on this list remain. """

I found this on the CDC website a whole list that the CDC requires for immigration hep A and B are on that list and hep B is the only one listed on the canadian list.

http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/laws-regs/vaccination-immigration/revised-vaccination-immigration-faq.html#newcriteria

Keep in mind... the shots have to be age apropriate or you dont need / shouldnt get them.

Thanks for the replies I tried my best but they are still stating in this area that Hep A & Hep B are required otherwise I cant have my medical completed just when I thought my pain was over with

I tend to pass out with injections and feel sick for the rest of the day so was hoping for no more :(

This is only a recent thing too I have loads of body piercings and had immunizations when I was younger but I was fine in fact its pretty embarrassing waking up to lots of people stood round you staring lol

oh well Im going to grit my teeth and pray for a safe immunizations journey

This is probably the reason they are requiring the Hep vaccines. As they are only required for some, the body piercings raise your risk of hepatitis infection so that would explain why they are insisting.

They cant see any of my piercings and they didnt ask if I had any

I spoke to them again and they advised that they had a client who sent it off without the Hep A & B and it was rejected so he came back to them had his shots and they resigned the paperwork for him free of charge.

I think it may be a high risk state therefore I need the shots

I wanted to let other people know as I travelled over 4 hours yesterday (to a different civil surgeon than I am not going to use now) to be told this information even though I had called the civil surgeon twice and asked several times if everything I had was ok.

Sometimes trying to save yourself money just isnt worth the hassle

Indeed. I would say get them, even if you do pass out, it'd be worth saving you trouble later on!

Good luck! Bring something sweet for after you've passed out! :)

The exact same thing happened to me when I was getting my vaccination info transferred onto an I-693 after I got here. I found a local CS with a very reasonable price for the transcription, but they wouldn't do it unless I went down to the local public health office and got a Hep b vaccine first, even though it were checked off on my vaccination worksheet as "Age Inappropriate." They said it was because Salt Lake City has a high local incidence of Hep B.

The local public health offered a combo Hep A and B vaccine. 3 shots at $55 each. I just got the first one, just to make the CS happy. Never did go get the others, but I haven't gotten Hepatitus yet so I'm probaby ok :P. It could very well be a state-specific thing.
