I know somewhere in here there is probably the answer but i have yet to find it, my question is in regards to changing my drivers license. I am in the state of michigan and I am originally from Canada. The question is when is the best time. Do I change it now, (just got married - still in the process of filing for aos, ap and ead) or do I wait until I receive my AP and EAD (if I get them -hopefully no problem with getting these) or do I wait until I receive my green card (my drivers license for Canada expires in September 2011)

So not to sure the best time. So if anyone out there has some information it would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Check the rules for your state. Some allow you to continue driving on your Canadian DL, and some do not once you have indicated intent to stay (ie: filed for AOS. In addition, many states require either EAD or green card to issue the DL,and then it expires at the same time as the immigration document you used to apply. Since we received the EAD right before our interview, we went ahead and waited until we had the green card to apply for the DL, so it would be valid for a longer time. Good luck!

you can change it now, just bring your "legal presence" document, and marriage certificate to DMV. you should be able to get DL right away.

look up "legal presence" document on DMV website if you need more information.
