I had no 'grand illusions' about marriage, even as a young girl, I had no dreams about 'white weddings' or wedding dresses - - in fact, seeing my parents at work had set the bar pretty low.

Yesterday was our first year marriage anniversary and we bought our first car together. We've been together for almost 3 years now and I couldn't be happier. We both work 8AM-4PM at jobs we love, we work hard and then we come home and veg out with Food Network and pizza in the oven and chilled Sauvignon Blanc.

We have our own lives but we can't live without each other. :)

We've had a pretty tough situation since we got married, but I don't regret my marriage for one second. My husband truly is my best friend, and I love him more than anything in the world. He's always on my side, no matter what. He really is everything to me, and I was never that kind of person before. I'm really very independent.

I was married previously and it was totally different. It was like living with a stranger for 9 years. I don't know what the hell I was thinking. ;)

I consider myself to be very fortunate. This is how it's supposed to be.

It is what I expected it to be.

That is, I expected to have arguments about what to get when food shopping, complaints that I take too long even if we just got somewhere. To take 3 hours to get out the door because he'll play Tekken and say he's waiting on me even though he hasn't gotten dressed or brushed his teeth yet.

You know, stuff that is irrelevant when something serious goes down. If he got into a wreck tomorrow and was in a coma I know I would do anything to hear him complain about me leaving empty cups of tea around.

When it comes down to it I know he's got my back and that's what I really wanted. I wanted someone to take on life with not protect me from it.

How life in America actually is compared to how I thought it would be...that is a different story.

I answered yes. It's not perfect, we have ups and downs, but then again, dating had it's ups and downs, friendship has their ups and downs. I knew it'd be hard some days, I knew it takes a lot of work to keep a good marriage, so that was no surprise at all. At the same time, I didn't expect the level of partnership we'd acquire after getting married, so much more than with dating for 4 years (or like 7 years and living together for 2 years with my ex).

Luis and I have gone through some serious financial #######, a mild case of depression/homesickness/F all this I'm going back home to Brasil!, living in a crappy apartment and seeing no light at the end of the tunnel in our first years of marriage (we're approaching the 4 year mark) and now that things are looking up for us we both have talked about how we now know for sure we can survive together through pretty much anything, and that if we could make it the first years (I hear trouble starts after 2 years and a lot of couples split at the 3 year mark) with so much stress, coming from an LDR, we'll sure have an ever better relationship in happier times.

I have to say that it is better than I expected. Due to the fact that all our parents(His and Mine) got divorced and remarried we both knew that being married was something that had to constantly be worked on. I remember all the ####### my parents went through and why they divorced (they were horrible together!).

However I also remember my moms second husband, hes was creepy but they could have made it work if they put some work into and instead they gave up.Now they both still love each other and regret divorcing but both are too stubborn to admit it to each other. The divorce rate has gone up so much due to people decided that being married isn't worth it, If you truly love someone then it is worth it for sure. (now I mean a marriage that has love in it, not an abusive relationship or one that was done out of mistake.) I was in a hopeless relationship for 5 years, why I stayed I have no damn clue maybe because i thought he needed me. When i met my husband it was different, it was and is amazing to be with him and yet we have our days were we disagree. We too have gone through ups and downs, we got pregnant in 2009 and I had a miscarriage, court cases with my EX, job loss, money problems, medical problems, we have been through it all and yet at the end of the day every bad thing or bump in the road that has happened has made us even more strong of a couple and person. We are not perfect in any way but we are perfect for each other. He is a great father, lover, and friend but he is also a pest at times :P

that's the way i feel about my husband, neither of us are perfect but we are perfect for each other. and if they arent pests soemtimes we wouldnt appreciate when they arent being one LOL or we'd miss the pestering

if you gave your info (receipt #s, full name, etc) to anyone on VJ under the guise that they would "help" you through the immigration journey with his inside contacts (like his sister at USCIS) ... please contact OLUInquiries@dhs.gov, and go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact to report anything suspicious. Contact your congressman and senator's offices as well.

Marriage. :(

Why did you make this poll public?! Now, I can't vote my spouse is on VJ. :P

We've had our up's and down's, silly moments, deep talks, compromises, and adjustments. Some things are better than I thought, they would be. Other things, are nothing like I imagined. There's something I refused to believe before I got married and now I am a firm believer in..."being married is nothing like dating/a relationship.".. It's a responsibility, constant work, it's a life.

I know he is the one for me, and I would do it all over again just to be with him (we've been through a lot just to be together, and I mean it I would do it all over again). (L)

We are not perfect in any way but we are perfect for each other.
