i-130 question 22 confusion

Hello everybody,

Can someone please help me to understand i-130 question 22? My wife is not in US right now, should I just

leave this question alone?

22. Complete the information below if your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status.

You can't leave this question alone, you should never leave any question blank. This question has 2 parts. You can put n/a for the part about adjusting status and in the line beside it you put the location of the consulate she will interview in.

I think this question says if your wife is in Us and apply for adjustment of status.

But my wife is not in the US yet. What should I write there?

N/A and N/A for city and state in the first part of Q22, as canadian_wife already told you.

In the second part, enter the City and Country where your wife goes for Immigrant visa interview.

I am confused about this question as well. The questions asks to provide information if your relative is in the US. The second part of this question asks for the foreign consulate if your relative is in the US but not eligible for adjustment of status (for example came as a visitor?). That's how I understand it. Per this understanding all four fields of this question should be marked as "N/A" if your relative is abroad.

I would appreciate comments. Thanks.

The other case is that you relative is not eligible for adjustment of status and therefore will apply at the consulate abroad.

Nowhere is asks for information for the case your relative is NOT in the US.

And so I am confused with the answers in this topic, as well as with the sample I-130 referenced from this site.

This is absolutely correct and confirmed as such thousands of times. In a visa case, fill in the city and country of the consulate where the visa interview will take place.

I guess this will be my stupid RFE. I read the bold faced part of the instructions, wrote N/A because it didn't apply to me and then went on to #23. Oh well, we'll see how it goes.

I think some people have successfully went through it without proper answer here. Based on the address of the beneficiary in the form, NVC will try to locate a closest Consulate for the interview. So, if prefix of the NVC Case# is good for you, just leave it at NVC stage. Otherwise, request NVC to get the proper Consulate.

I actually left the entire section blank because I didn't think it applied to us (this was before I discovered VJ.) In any case we had no issues at all and were approved without an RFE.
