Is the WTC site on a national memorial list? Just curious.

I generally think that national memorials should be either secular or open to every possible faith. Obviously the mosque that is planned is not at the site, is on private property, and I believe if it is blocked that would set a very dangerous precedent for the nation as a whole.

Mob rule generally is dangerous precedent.

What's wrong with calling it the sacred hole? Nothing. It's been a hole in the ground for 10 years; now, it's a hallowed hole in the ground off limits to Muslim unless they're body parts. Sorry, after all this hulabaloo over somebody doing something in memoriam 2 blocks away, but it's ok that the site they claim to be protecting is still a bloody hole, there's not much credibilty left to criticize the obvious.

IMO the whole design process for the WTC site has been a disgrace.

It rather depends on what you believe calling it a sacred hole will achieve when there is a perfectly valid non emotive name for it already. Ground zero does not conjure up any negative associations with anything so why be coy about using it? Are you being bigoted against Americans because some Americans are bigoted against Muslims?

I agree, but calling it a sacred hole in this context muddies the waters unnecessarily. Ground Zero is not anti anything.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

It's a hole, and it's been deemed sacred. When it becomes something other than a sacred hole, I'll be happy to call it what it becomes.

Ground Zero is apparently anti-Muslim. It's a serious shame that the effort going into stopping other people from promoting healing in their own way didn't go toward making the hole into something that they could be proud of. It might be something really amazing by now, considering how amazing the hatred is.

Well this thread proves one thing on VJ open forum off topic that I have been saying for a long time now, it is filled with liberal wing nuts on the far left, someone was watching Softball, er hardball on MSNBC and cannot believe that building this muslim church at ground zero is like burning the USA flag! WELL Duh it is, whoever that person was sitting in for Matthews was right on! I cannot believe the nerve of this criminal imam preacher man who claims Hamas is not a terrorist group and that the USA is to blame for 9/11, makes me just wonder what in the world is wrong with people living in USA are you all out of touch with reality! :hehe:

I'm watching Hardball. Someone is sitting in for Chris Matthews. I don't know his name. He just compared building Cordoba to burning the flag. He says just because you have a right to do it doesn't mean you should.

I think his comparison is off base and Chris Matthews should never let this clown substitute for him again.

What do you think? Is the comparison fair?

You are doing the same thing that you decry other people for doing. Ground Zero is not sacred to a specific group (or anyone for that matter) nor is it anti-anything - only the bigots are making claims that it represents something that it does not. Your calling it a sacred hole is therefore deliberately defamatory. and while your being annoyed by bigotry is understandable, your blaming Ground Zero for that bigotry is not.
