You may not know this but Emperor Paul sees himself as a constitutional scholar. The basis for his expertise? He reads a lot of ####### online. Seriously.

Apparently, he doesn't read enough ####### online to know that there are people calling for the deportation of Muslims, a moratorium on the building of mosques, that claim that Islam is evil, all Muslims are terrorists and the only reason for Muslims to put that mosque in the historic landmark that was a Burlington Coat Factory is to celebrate "their" victory on 9/11. One of the leaders of the anti-mosque crowd, the demented Pamela Geller of the blog "Atlas Shrugged", was on CNN tonight. She is not a nice person, nor an intelligent one. She's among the worse sort of one issue shrills around, and even Paypal wants nada to do with her. There is no way this woman rates the kind of adulation and following except that she's great at hate and attracts similar types to her.

I'm not the only one defending the mosque. Others who are are not Muslim defend it along side me. What is their motive?

You're right, there are others defending the project. Some Americans still believe that the Constitution is worth defending.

I wouldn't call them bigots, although there are some self-hating Muslims and ex-Muslims, like Wafa Sultan, who make a mint appeasing Muslim haters. I've seen a couple of Canadian Muslims supporting the mosque. Since 9/11, I know that LPR Muslims, in particular, are easily intimadated by bigots due to fear that their visas will be suddenly withdrawn without recourse under the Patriot Act.

There are no logical grounds for attacking all Muslims. But ther are also no logical grounds for painting everyone with concerns about this mosque in particular, and mosques in general, with the same broad brush of accusations of being bigoted haters.

Obviously this is a fractious topic but it would be nice to see less accusatory defensiveness from both supporters and detractors. Too much to ask in off topic, but one can always hope...

What the naked emperor does not seem to understand is that the 'sensitivity' issue ONLY comes into play (however ironic that is when applied to the naked emperor) if the word mosque conjures up an image of a terrorist instead of an image of a devotee at prayer. For those of you who see a terrorist when someone says mosque, you are a bigot, plain and simple.

I wonder if any Christian churches have been built within 2 blocks of an abortion clinic bomb site (done by far-right Christians). My point is that if one of those @$$holes had done this terrible act no one would be crying out about a new Christian church being built nearby.

Not really Paul. The argument that is being advanced, whether it is explicitly said or not is that the mosque is unwelcome because it is somehow synonymous with the terrorist acts of 9/11.

It is not. It amounts to an exercise in collective punishment against people who had.nothing to do with the terrorist attacks.

it wouldn't be rational to protest a catholic church being erected near a school because of the abuse scandal. it is bigotry. there is no other interpretation.
