I'm watching Hardball. Someone is sitting in for Chris Matthews. I don't know his name. He just compared building Cordoba to burning the flag. He says just because you have a right to do it doesn't mean you should.

I think his comparison is off base and Chris Matthews should never let this clown substitute for him again.

What do you think? Is the comparison fair?

No it isn't. It's just more sensationalist garbage from another media whoring son of a b!tch. Someone else who should be forced to eat a giant slab of dog toffee

I don't think Chris M. would have said this. But maybe I'm wrong. If so, I would be very disappointed in him.

Olbermann has been excellent on this issue.

What a stupid comparison.

I missed that show because I was being blown away by this video I found of Fox News anchors supporting Barry's stance on the mosque, and this link to a story and video about a CNN anchor opposing it. Hell has surely frozen over when Fox staffers are supporting the consitutional rights of Muslims to build a mosque and a CNN host and an MSNBC host are not :help:

See video above of an MSNBC host who supports it. And we all know Glenn Beck and Hannity hate the mosque.

I don't have msnbc so I don't watch Chris Matthews to know what he would say. But I don't agree with the comparison. This issue is really bugging me today, because of some stuff I have read online from some friends/acquaintances. I decided(well, before today) that freedom of religion means freedom of religion whether you agree with the religion or not. If a religion is practicing within the laws of the land, it should be allowed. The mosque is not directly on top of ground zero. I do understand that some people are over sensitive to this issue if they lost loved ones in the towers. I guess I can't decide how they should feel. I have heard other reasons people think it's a bad idea besides the victims issue, but haven't researched much myself about the funding aspect.

His name is Michael Smerconish, a radio personality of some sort. I can't believe Chris Matthews has this guy sitting in for him.

This whole issue isn't about bigotry and racism as some people want to make it out to be who are all "for" the mosque being there. To many, even those who aren't victims it would be a painful reminder and a slap in the face as I've stated numerous times. There are plenty of other locations a mosque could be built in NYC away from the site. There are also people I'm sure who would build a mosque without laughing and spitting in the face of victims by having a ground breaking on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Of course this whole part of it will get ignored.

Sofiyya, yes I'm calling you out here before you respond to me and call me a "bigot" as you seem to like to do here. All I'm saying is stop and put yourself in other people's shoes and out of the Islamic community for one minute. No one is saying all members of Islam are extremists, no one is saying that Islam is a bad religion. What people are saying is that the people who rammed 2 planes into two towers and brought them down (allegedly mind you) were Islamic Terrorists. They had their beliefs that focused on the extreme. While Islam does not condemn the killing of innocent people, this is who these terrorists portrayed themselves as and that hits hard with a lot of people. I'm sure many in the Islamic community would feel the same way if some "Christian Terrorist/Extremist" came and blew up a large Islamic center and then Christians wanted to come build a brand new mega-center right down the street. It's not about bigotry or tolerance, it's about sensitivity, which seems to be lacking here by the continued push for this mosque.

I have a disdain for all religions and attack them all for various reasons, do don't take this as an attack on Islam. All I'm saying is that as many of said, it's not about whether or not you have a right to build something anywhere, it's a matter of what IS right.

I'm not in the "Islamic community" when I call you a bigot, Paul. I'm an American, and I call you a bigot because you pretend not to be a bigot and someone has to tell you that you're not fooling anyone. Just the fact that you consider me to be posting "out of the "Islamic community" when I post about constitutional rights correctly overriding raw and irrational emotionalism is a display of your prejudice. If you think I only post as a Muslim when I oppose your position, then should I tell you to come out of the White xenophobic community and put yourself into other people's shoes?

No, I know better.

I don't understand how you fail to see the bigotry in your posts. Let me try to explain. Saudi Arabia says there are plenty of churches in the world. To build one in their country would be a slap in the face of Muslims and a painful reminder of Christian colonialism and oppression in the Middle East. Build them somewhere else.

That's what you sound like. Is that bigoted speech? Or, can you defend it?
