We had Geico for a couple years, but now we have Progressive for a couple years because we got a better rate. Neither of us has been in an accident(well, I have been in many as a passenger in other people's cars, haven't had any while I was driving). I think either insurance companies are fine.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

We had geico, but when we signed up for a Sam's club membership they had some discounts on insurance, so I called about it. We got a policy through Safeco, and for the same amount of coverage we saved about $2000 a year....and we had the military rate when we were with Geico.

I have 21st Century Insurance. They were a part of AIG, but recently sold their auto insurance division to Farmers Insurance. 21st Century was the best price and and service I have found. But there is a caveat, you only get the good rates if you meet certain pre-conditions, such as a clean record. Geico was roughly $300 per month more for me, and the deductable was double. Right now, I pay $850 per year for full coverage, $500 deductable and the max as far as limits.

The company that I would stay away from is Mercury Insurance. They offer low prices, but god help you if you need to file a claim. They also frequently ask you to send in your odometer reading as they will penalize you if you go over the estimated mileage you give them.

I still have Geico but I'm looking for a better deal if it's out there.

A couple of years back I had both homeowners & auto on Geico.

Then I got a letter from Geico that they were sub-contracting the homeowners to Travelers.

Very little changed, except "there goes my discount for having both homeowners & auto out the window!"

Saving $2,000/year? Sheesh, how much was your old car insurance?

With Geico, we pay $705/year for car insurance (2 cars, 2 people). If we went with the minimum amounts, it would be $330/year.

we are thinking of switching to Geico when our current insurance expires in October.. our current company sucks...

I can get a better policy for the same price with Geico...

Why bother waiting? Switch now and cancel your old company.

if the price is in the neighborhood, go with state farm. state farm will not use aftermarket parts (except glass) unless all other options (oem & lkq(salvage oem))have been exhausted, then they will use only capa certified parts. geico, progressive, usaa, farmers, farm bureau,21st,mercury...all use aftermarket parts first then lkq & oem as a last resort.....read your policy

because we will have to pay money to cancel our current insurance.. like 30 to 40 bucks...

We have USAA as husband is in military. Geico was ripping us off for a year until I figured USAA is the way to go (USAA accepted my driving history from overseas which Geico refused to do and treated me as a new driver). USAA just beat Farmers on renters insurance premium - used to pay around $300 a year, now paying $150 with more coverage...

I think we might go with progressive.. it is $105 a month with a $250 deductible or we might do a $500 deductible, not sure yet..

it just makes me crazy that we have been overpaying on car insurance these last few years..

Interesting to know that.

I use Farm Bureau and their rates are great. I also like polices that cover a year, rather then then 6 month teaser bullcrap.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.
