I am desperate to play my game. My husband's Xbox360 is in the throes of the red ring of death, (for the second time mind you -- first time it was under warranty and got replaced) but event half-broken Xboxes on Craiglist are selling for ~$160 a piece. (Never mind that you can get a PS2 with controllers and games for, like, $50. Argh.)

I keep seeing parts. Can it be fixed? Is it worth it? Does anyone know?

#######, Best Buy had them on sale for $140 with 2 controllers and a lame game last weekend.

Not here. They're still about $200-$300 each.

My husband's Xbox has suffered the Red Ring of Death too. Unfortunately, this happened after the warranty expired. There are some fix guides out there, but as far as I know, they all end up voiding one's warranty as you have to open the box up. If your warranty is now expired, you can give fixing it a shot. There's a fix called the "penny fix" which is easily googled. It may or may not work and of course requires the Xbox to be disassembled. The error is usually caused by the unit overheating and fixes tend to be temporary, though it seems there are varying results for different people.

My husband's Xbox still is in pieces; he's not yet had the time to attempt the penny fix so I can't speak of its success or failure.

Check SKU # 9267937 (for searching) on BestBuy.com. You can pick up a new bundle for around $150. This may be more bang for your buck, and a new warranty to boot.

Keep in mind, the new Xbox with that Kinect ability are rolling out (SKU # 1069212). Depending on how much gaming you want to do on your Xbox, you may want to save up and spring for that model instead.
