It doesn't have to be THE engagement ring, it could be any ring. We're just playing out possibilities here.

But all he asked is if it would be a problem if she didn't have one, and it won't be. So.. there's no need to play games and get a fake ring and pretend it's an engagement ring.

I know it's not a requirement, as do most of the posters here, but we also understand that some people feel more comfortable at the interview that decides whether or not they get to be together if they have something tangible, something material, aside from photographs and other forms of evidence to show that they are engaged.

Also, it can work as a pretty effective barfly repellent. ;)

Hello everyone, I'm wondering how important is it that my fiancee is wearing a engagement ring when she is at her K-1 Visa interview at the U.S. Embassy? Did you wear a engagement ring at your interview? If she does not wear a engagement ring, will that effect the decision of the consulate doing her interview?

Thank you so much in advance

It is of absolutely NO importance. She needs to sign the letter of intent, that is all.

My wife did not have an "engagement ring" EVER and bought a wedding ring after she arrived in the US.

I would err on the side of caution to NOT end up being the 1 in 100 who arouse suspicion because she isn't wearing an engagement ring. It's probably not important and I'm probably being overly cautious, but S#&T happens and its better to be safe than sorry.

You can buy a ring online for a good deal at James Allen or Jareds. Most of these sites have online ring sizers where you can even figure out the size. Or you can borrow a ring but it might be tough to find someone who will let you borrow their diamond engagement ring unless its a close female relative.

It's not a good idea for her to get a ring that looks so cheap. It's not realistic to wear a cheap silver ring that looks like it cost $5. I think it will look suspicious. I bought my wife a pretty gold band online at James Allen. They have free shipping. She wore to the interview and wears to this day. I figured she needed a ring anyway. It had a 3 digit price tag. No big deal.

You are replying to a post that is 2 years old.

That being said, everything that was stated in this thread was, and still is, true. There is no need for an engagement ring. If you have not purchased one, or are not planning on getting one, that is fine. It is not a requirement for a K-1 visa. I never bought my husband one and he was approved just fine without it. :D

DeeDee, another VJ member that I chat with had her interview at the Romanian embassy a month ago and she said they asked her questions about her engagement ring and made an issue about the fact she was wearing it on the wrong hand. (Needed to be sized- i have been doing the same thing ). Apparently the ring is a bigger deal at the Romanian embassy, so I think I will get mine sized so I can wear it on the correct finger when I go with my fiance for his interview.

its very true. romania has this little obsession with the way things should be. i dont say the engagement ring problem applied to everyone, but it did to me, better be safe than sorry

I am a bit confused. If you are engaged, don't you wear your engagement ring daily? So I dont understand why the interview has any bearing on you wearing your engagement ring.I assume you wear teh ring on a dialy basis, so why take it off because of the interview?I think it might be harder to explain why you are NOT wearing the ring than wearing it like you normally do.

If you had read the very original poster, he hadn't gave her ring yet, he wanted to do it in person rather then send it in the mail. That is why she isn't wearing it. i agree that sending it through the mail to her would be ummm not very tasteful any way.

That, and this thread is 2 years old. The OP was approved back in Sept. 2010.

Ups. I don't have one at the moment, it is still in the US. I used the money intended for that last year to get myself a flat instead. I think I'll just go cynical on them.

I can get a copy of the receipt tho, but with the price obscured, seems I can't know how much it cost (maybe cause if it is too much, I'll chew his ####, lol).

I really think it depends on the country. Some countries have a bigger tradition of wearing engagement rings than others. If in country A, it's socially unacceptable to be engaged and not have a ring, but in country B it's usually a non-issue, the consulate in country A would likely question about it while the consulate in country B wouldn't even mention it.
