Hello everyone, I'm wondering how important is it that my fiancee is wearing a engagement ring when she is at her K-1 Visa interview at the U.S. Embassy? Did you wear a engagement ring at your interview? If she does not wear a engagement ring, will that effect the decision of the consulate doing her interview?

Thank you so much in advance

Yeah, according to the K-1 guide here, the engagement ring is not required.

My girl thinks it is important to have the ring, though. If you're worried, you could have her borrow a ring, or get her something inexpensive to wear then.

Good luck!

Chinook wore her engagement ring to her interview.

Interview day was a very big day in our lives. It was a day where we didn't want to take any chances.

If wearing a ring did nothing more than make a good first impression on the Consul Officer, then it was worth it. :star:

Most interview reviews I've read make it sound sort of like a conversation. The question "didn't he get you a ring?" may come up as they discuss the proposal etc. If she is prepared for that, then she can just as easily give the reason, which is perfectly valid, but it could be uncomfortable if it comes as a surprise or is unexpected. BTW, I wouldn't have wanted an engagement ring in the mail either!

I wore mine cause it made me feel closer to my fiancé, but I don't think they even noticed it! They're very practical. Don't worry, I don't think it matters!

Hi

just to give you additional information. some Canadians friends of mine (of course in a different path, they were in an AOS process, not K-1 process). they were not only asked for their rings but also asked for what the inscription said, then the interviewer match the date of the inscription inside the ring with their wedding date to see if this was true.

Reading other VJ experiences sometimes awkward things can happen that i only can say " if do you think it is needed just implement it" who knows ?

Funny thing; I actually just read an article that says diamond engagement rings aren't traditional, just companies like DeBeer keeping a major hold and monopolising the market for diamonds and what not, saying that it's a girl's best friend et cetera. In fact, one of my best friends was proposed to with a high-end DSLR camera with awesome Leica lens.

If you're worried, ask her to purchase a simple costume ring from a trinket shop. That should help quell any doubts of a question like that arising. I don't think they ever asked me for the appraisal price of mine. :)

Otherwise, like other posters have mentioned, it really isn't all that important. What's most important is its meaning to you. Not anyone else.
