Yeah... not Abu Ghraib-level by any means. But still not something I'd go and do to show I was serious about biznez.

that's just it - i'm not seeing what's so outrageous.

The IDF knows the environment in which this occurred better than any of us do ... and they think it's a problem.

yet i've not seen it specifically stated what is wrong.

It does matter because thats the context I(not we) put it in.

Yes I understand that you added the context, but you don't seem to understand that doing so trivalises the seriousness of this and that, at worst, you are complicit with it by trying to justify the soldier's actions. That isn't something that anyone has tried to do - and for good reason, because there is no reasonable defence.

They condem it for obvious political reasons. Does this mean that they condem this girl on a personal level?

They condemn it because it reveals the mindset of people in that situation. Noone knows what was going through the soldier's mind, but for whatever reason she saw fit to take pictures of bound prisoners as some sort of "trophy" of her military service and post them to her Facebook page.

This isn't an off the wall argument - it has historical precedent in the Nazi atrocities of the Holocaust, for example; and scientific precedent in the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Put enough stupid actions in any conflict together, and everything gets blown out of proportion, over and over again. Then nothing gets resolved due to the drama.

So we shouldn't excuse this drama by making this woman run some laps, give her a warning and move on. No?

Iraq is not Palestine/Israel.

I was making a point about media hype and selectivity.

Your making a mountain out of a mole hill. What do you think her punishment should be?

I think when we Myspace or Facebook a pic like that... its pretty freaking stupid any way you look at it, particularly when smiles are involved. IMO it trivializes even the IDF into a joke. Pictures really do paint so many words.

Probably not, hopefully they would be spitting on them reminding them of the pieces of shite they are.

There's that drama again.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

You're downplaying the story at best, justifying the soldier's actions at worst.

Punishment? I have no idea, I'm not really interested in the soldier to be honest - I understand she probably won't be punished because she is no longer in military service.

They should just do their job.

Never said anything of the sort. I think you're reacting a little too much. It might be time for that chill pill.

I was making a point about media hype and selectivity.

Which would be?

To my knowledge, the media reports what is there to be reported.

The issue with putting pictures like that on a social networking site are not that it "triviliazes the IDF into a joke".
