As has been mentioned by the mods, for every mod decision that upsets someone, someone else applauds it (usually in private). Did anyone ever consider that things are the way they are because the majority really is happy? The minority can yell as loudly as they want to, but Ewok won't change things until it's not just the minority with the problem.

The issue of thread locking has been brought up so many times, I highly doubt that Ewok's mind will be changed on the subject.

Sure, I understand this. Especially in a large community, small changes can create big waves, and it only makes sense to tread with caution any time you make change.

But sometimes you can't just lead by statistics. Sometimes you just have to do what's right. The thread-locking issue, for instance, *has* been brought up many times, you're right. But the way it's being done now is wrong. It punishes everyone for the actions of a few. Worse, it punishes those who want to get back to the original topic after a thread lock, because re-starting a locked thread violates the TOS. Just because it's the way it's always been doesn't make it right. It also encourages push-button moderation, because it's so danged easy to just fire and forget instead of engaging your brain to fix the problem.

In cases where the language on a regional forum is English, the regional forum moderator should not be someone who participates in that forum and and has formed personal relationships with people on that forum. JMHO.

However, in some regional forums, you need to understand the context of things like humor and banter between members to be able to discern good natured fun from actual insults.

I disagree. The whole point is that you choose somebody who has a vested interest in the community. Somebody who isn't part of a clique, and somebody who has shown a capacity for good judgement and level-headed thinking. You want to avoid cliquish members for sure, but also someone who that community has already come to respect.

or someone who is more than willing to join in on flaming people that one of their clique is engaged in an ongoing dispute with.
