The thing I love about this exchange is that Julian is absolutely correct. Charles never actually used the word '#######,' because even he understood how much hot water he'd have gotten himself in. Instead, he posted the link for exactly the reason Julian cited: he wanted people to draw conclusions. Of course, he's not mature enough to actually *get* what the post was about, he just remembered a post about a dirty, dirty girl, and wanted to shame you for it. Julian is 100% correct: Charles wanted people to draw a conclusion. He couldn't have made it more obvious if he'd pinned a scarlet letter on you himself.

Of course, Julian thinks he's defending Charles, but in fact it couldn't be more damning. One of our Visa Journey moderators, ladies and gentlemen. Let's all give him a hand.

My interpretation of Charles's comment/link was that he was basically saying to Maven, "You write stuff like this, what do you expect?" It was mean spirited and disrespectful. That it came from a mod was the worst thing about it. I think it was deleted not because it was so egregious, but because it was from a mod who showed poor judgment.

The thing is, even if you assume that Charles' comment was an innocent misunderstanding (as Charles claimed), the fact that there that there is no benefit of the doubt being offered says a lot. Obviously there are personal biases at work here, I don't think anyone could deny that, but I don't think it can all be explained away by that.

Charles' online persona and post history are partly what leads people to question his honesty and motives over things like this as well as the fact that he continues to bait members outside of the regional forums.

I don't think much is going to be served by continuing harping on that post. The "official" position is clear and accepting it as honest misunderstanding, even if we all think differently, does remove the need for continuing a pointless argument that will only get the thread closed.

I agree that when possible only offending topics should be removed and the topic not permanently closed. If the topic has derailed and the "nonsense" has become entrenched even by the original posters then it can be closed. The "weeding out" of bad and OT posts is desired whenever possible though.

Closing this topic as the question is answered and the topic here has gone from O(n)T to O(ff)T for a long while.
