$300 a night in tips..

I thought only pole dancers got that for the few years before the cellulite strikes and/or the drugs make their teeth fall out

A hottie at any club that isn't a total dive is going to make a ton more than $300 a night.

And even when they get fat/old, they simply work at the clubs that cater to more unfortunate among us. No cover, cheap beers, stained bar stools... you know the type.

At a decent place, you won't get less than 20% tip. Dinner per person will run around $40. Serve 25 people and you've made $200. Not bad for 5 hours work.

I remember a time when 15% was average. Now it's 20%. They tell me it's because of inflation but we're talking percentages here!

They tell me our public library is way nicer today than it was in 1999 - the last time I set foot in there. I should go check it out.

You might also be pleasantly surprised to find that your local library is a member of a

county-wide system with one card good for all. Many things that the NY public library

doesn't have I often find, to my surprise, in the Westchester system.

I don't browse the shelves that much but get most by online reservation.

"Hell Ride" (2008) is a Quentin Tarentino "presents" film by Larry Bishop that is Dennis Hopper's last

motorcycle flick, as well as one of David Carradine's last appearances.

It's an updated, motorcycle version of a "spaghetti western" without Clint.

Tipping is pretty much unheard of

(except in venues like 5-star hotels where foreigners

{Americans} don't know any better) in Thailand.

I've never felt good about our system where only in

certain businesses (restaurants & others associated

with travel & entertainment) there is a "de rigueur"

expectation that a tip will be paid.

I think the need for tipping came out of the tendency

of the owners of such businesses to pay lower

salaries than people could live on. That's why

the workers there have come to expect it as a

right rather than a bonus for a job well done.

Foreigners will point out that this notion is absurd.

Then the topic continues in the area of the need

for more government regulations/controls,

which are distasteful to many of us.

Some Americans don't tip because a tip is,

generally speaking, voluntary unless it's

printed on the bill and even if it is on the

bill there is no legal basis for adding it.

Tipping is common in Thailand for some services . 20 baht is an acceptable tip for maid service or waitstaff service at a mid- to ow end restaurant. For roadside restaurants/stands, no tip is expected. For higher-class establishments, 50 or so baht, maybe a bit more, is expected. No tip needed for taxi rides as the fare is usually negotiated (off the meter) anyway, unless you are unfortunate enough to be in Bangkok. This is just a small list.

Yes tipping in Thailand is more prevalent than I suggested,

but until the custom was introduced by foreign influence,

it was not a traditional Thai custom.

I hate how most places impose an automatic tip on groups of 8 or more, usually a 15% gratuity. Um, that kinda goes against what tipping is all about. What if we got horrific service? I want it to be at our option, not theirs.

gratuity

Main Entry: gra·tu·ity Pronunciation: \grə-ˈtü-ə-tē, -ˈtyü-\Function: nounInflected Form(s): plural gra·tu·itiesDate: 1540: something given voluntarily or beyond obligation usually for some service; especially : tip

I am British now - since I saw George Galloway trashing the US Senate on you tube. I have changed my flag on VJ

and the Scots will treat my senility for free and nurse me forever with bonny Scottish nurse babes in long term care and not take my house like they do in England (and the US).

That is something a person with only a US passport can only dream about and I can have it on demand instantly..

Wifey is planning to do 3 years in the yookay and get her red passport so she can be fear-free too.
