I called the NVC today. Our case was approved on this past Friday and on Monday my wife has an appointment in Spetember at the US Embassy in Bangkok. I orignally wanted the K-3 visa because I thought it would go faster but the I-129 was closed of course because it arrived at the NVC at the same time as the I-130. I was very upset for my I-129 to be disapproved so I wrote my Congressmen and wrote a letter to the NVC requesting my original packet be expedited straight to Bangkok. Now two weeks later it approved and we have an appoitment. I doubt if anything that I did helped and I think our number just came up so it was just the luck of the cards. I am very greatful.

I do plan on contacting my congressmen again because I think something really needs to be done about the K-3 Visa process because it really makes no sense at all now. I think if enough people push for change then maybe we can help future couples so they don't have to go through this. It seems to me that there should be a similar process in place as the K-1 for married couple and I don't know what would be the best process, but I think the current K-3 visa process is broken beyond repair.

I want to put a timeline together for other American-Thai couples. It seems most people go the K-1 route in Thailand but I'm sure there are a few out there just like my wife and I and there will be more in the future.

Hey - that's the greatest news ever !!

I've read other threads where the interview was superfast, on assigning, for Thailand-bound casefiles.

re: timelines - uhm... Could you fill yers in , please, at http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=90185 ??

then - ya see that flag thingie under yer name? click it - that takes you to the Thailand Portal - and once there -

train yer eyes down and to the left. You'll see timelines for Thai Couples.

IMO, extracting that data and coming up with some nice charts n graphs is USEFUL !!!!

some nomenclature, though.

For a CR-1 visa to 'be approved' - a Consular Officer at the Immigration Unit in Thailand, says, on interview day, 'Congratulations, you're approved! ' Then a few days/weeks later, the visa packet arrives at yer lass' postal address.

What you've gone through, the last few days, was

'documents complete'

'final review'

'appointment date set'

with maybe some expedite thrown in for good measure. The CR-1 visa hasn't been approved, yet. The DS-230, Visa Application, has been 'accepted', through. Final Adjudication to be done at the US Embassy.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
