hi and welcome meowgirl

damm all the melbournians come out the woodwork now i have left lol...

where are you in the states...???? please say up near lake erie lol lol its ok im the only one in toledo that is aussie im sure of it lol

LOL we'll be living in the Detroit area (at least for a while) so not far at all, only one hour from Toledo. There are some other Aussies in the Detroit area that I have heard of as well. I do miss Melbourne, especially with all of the snow here.

Today I got my official NOA1 in the mail. I'm hoping things will move quickly since meowboy lived here for a year in the late 90s on a student visa (that's how we met, actually). Could this have any effect on things? There are some potential issues with the visa (cutting the two year visit requirement VERY close) so I'm hoping and praying that there won't be RFEs or a flat out denial.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Even though my friends and family are very supportive, no one can quite understand what it's like if they haven't been through this experience. Good luck to the others who are just starting out and those who are further along the path.

why would it affect your application with meowboy being there for a year ... i dont think it would...you just gotta let them know he was ...does he have a social security number..that will save time on getting a new one when he gets here...

now that bit of news has made my day lol thanks ....

take care

A belated Welcome to the Meows! :D Congrats on the NOA1! You are on the way. :D Plus you have made Kath very happy! :P I am also from Melbourne and miss it so so so so so much! :( Canberra is the pits compared to Melbourne. Sigh....Bridge Rd, Lygon street, Southbank. I used to love that I could hear bellbirds singing at my local shopping centre (Knox) and there were tame possums in my street.

Well anyway, wishing you and Rings a speedy journey.

Priscilla and Vylex great news on finally getting your forms off! :D Bet you're relieved.

Elle, hang in there hope you hear something soon.

Hey Guys! Just a q regarding the birth certificate to be brought in an interview...I have the original, but my silly parents wrote on the back. Should this be of a concern? Are they THAT fussed with that sort of thing?

Thanks for any info!

Lyndel - thanks :) Im trying to be optimistic but its getting a bit tougher, I miss Eric and I won't be seeng him for another 4 months (vs the 4 weeks that would have been had it not have been for the DCF changes) and thats hoping they let me thru VWP.

Good luck to all beginning their journey!

If you are truely worried about your birth certificate, then you can acually order a certified copy. I ordered 3 of them in case I would need them anyway. It shouldn't matter that they wrote on it, but you never can tell with the government. I know that I am very paranoid so I made sure to have mutiple copies that are all certified in case I had to send off originals to multiple locations. I wish I was more help, but I just started :(

Oh I absolutely adored being in Melbourne! It was so easy to get around, not as humid as Sydney or Brisbane and I loved the Dandenongs and the CBD. I get to go visit again in July and I can hardly wait!

I sent off my I-129F packet - two days later than I'd planned, but it -should- get there by Tuesday and then the waiting game for NSC!

Btw, have the Vic bushfires gone out yet? They were burning before I left back and last I heard were still burning, but I haven't heard much for a while.

01/28/07 - Joined VJ

01/29/07 - Began gathering neccessary information and attachments for I-129F form:

02/07/07 - Recieved signed documents from Rob to be sent with the I-129F

02/16/07 - I-129F packet sent to Nebraska Service Center

02/21/07 - I-129F packet recieved at NSC at 7:56 am

03/01/07 - Recieved packet back from CSC - check dated wrong! (2006, not 2007)

03/01/07 - Sent packet off again - directly to CSC this time

03/05/07 - Case recieved and dated.

03/06/07 - Check cashed and number recieved!

03/09/07 - Touched

05/18/07 - Touched and approved! 78 days in all!

05/21/07 - Confirmation e-mail recieved!

05/28/07 - Hard Copy of approval recieved.

06/12/07 - Packet 3 received by fiance.

06/13/07 - Initial form sent off.

06/21/07 - Police interview

06/21/07 - Packet 3 expressed to Sydney

06/22/07 - Medical

07/02/07 - Packet 4 and interview date recieved! Interview is:

07/18/07 - Interview in Sydney! - Approved!

07/19/07 - I get to see Rob again!

08/06/07 - I fly back to the states to plan a wedding and prepare for him to move over.

Hey Elle,

I don't think you should be worried about your birth certificate having writing on it, just get a copy of it certified at the police station. That's what I did. They keep the copy and only sight the original at the interview. And....I had Jake's employment letter with a dirty big muddy footprint on it cause he dropped it in the snow and stopped it with his army boot (I tried to clean it up and then got a tiny hole in it..grrrr) , plus he had white out on his I-134 Affidavit of Support and they didn't care. Rose said she gets a lot worse. I think you will be fine, seriously.

I got through on VWP twice. I just said I was visiting friends and didn't mention the K1 petition. I thought if they ask I will tell if they don't I won't. I know the waiting is hard, but you are almost there. I am still trying to sell my car and can't go until I do, so frustrating cause I have the Visa and I really am missing Jake now. :(

Valkyrie, I lived at the base of the Dandenongs, was so pretty. Used to do the 1000 steps every weekend now I just eat chocolate and get on VJ :hehe: I want a Melbourne pizza they absolutely Suck here!

Vylex and Rings, sounds like yr making good progress.

I need some coffee....see ya!

Thanks so much Lyndel! Great advice. It's the ####### worry wart that comes with being a Virgo lol. I'll probably head to the police station sometime next week. Where have you advertised the car? Goodluck on that! U mentioned its a Honda right? Is it an auto or manual? I got a few friends in Canberra, I'll see if any are interested. You are SOOO close!

Rings - thanks to you too! I ended up ordering a copy online *just in case* But hearing Lyndels story I'm a bit more at ease. You think the delivery confirmation is exciting - wait until you get the ofiicial notices and getting "touched"! OOOH!

Whats up with that -- no love for Sydney?? :P Cmon the City rocks at night! Eric and I went quite a few times to the City his last visit, once to watch a show in the Opera House and hes like Im sorry Im taking you all away from this. awws lol. At least Bmore has great crabs!

But Melbourne is a pretty city (seems a lot safer than Sydney too)

Valky - You really reckon Sydneys more humid? I thought Melbourne got much hotter than it does in Sydney. We went to Melb last year...to watch the Aussie Open and it was heaps of fun! I wanna do the Great Ocean Drive.
