Hello all,

I received my Visa on 13th Jan and am looking at leaving here on May 8 (work commitments). Question I have for all the ones who have left Australia already is did you all buy a one-way ticket or a return?.

I have noticed is like $1,000 cheaper to buy a return ticket and hey what they going to do if you don't use it?

Anyways just curious if anyone bought a return ticket

Thanks

Many folks I talked to who got approved got a one way tickey with refundable just in case...tons cheaper!

HUGS ALL!

No I think you will find thats incorrect is much cheaper to buy a return ticket

yep, I got one way for me, but a return for my K2, and even though he returned to Oz (didnt like it here) we bought him a new ticket because the fees to change the flight didnt make it worth it. The airline just cancelled it no problem

Hi and welcome Bella

Luckily you live in the right city, apparently the phone lines to the Australian Embassy there are a lot more helpful than USCIS and the DIMA website has a lot of info. I have been looking into a spouse visa so can't help you directly but I noticed a few posts on the british expats board about fiance visa's

hope it helps

Hi, my husband has an Aussie spousal visa which we applied for off shore in Japan. The process from start to finish took about 2 months - similar timeline as the DCF we did in Sydney for my US visa. I think the processing time depends on where your Aussie citizen fiance/husband sponsor lives. If they live in Australia they would apply for it on shore which can take longer than offshore applications.

Goonluka- I bought a one way ticket from Brisbane - Seattle thru Taipei. Paid about $1200 incl taxes and surcharges for travel last August. It was the cheapest ticket I could find, had a return ticket been cheaper I would have booked that instead.

Thanks for that Kaffy and others.........I am just going on current prices that are avalable and apologies if I came across saying I knew that a return was always a cheaper ticket............I have recently found information regarding that yes you can be lucky with a one-way ticket on special.

All I was trying to ascertain was if I bought a return ticket what could be the implications on not using the return leg of it. Am not concerned about being asked on entry to the USA cause I know they don't care what type of airline ticket I have.

Thanks

Hi Guys :) another Aussie here, from Brissy ... I received my pk3 a couple weeks back and have started gathering everything I need to submit ... Ive already had my police check ...

I was wondering if someone can tell me what I need to do in regards to the medical ... Ive called the medical centre closest to me and got all the details from them but I havent made an appointment yet .... Ive been reading thru the DSL-1076 form and have totally confused myself ...

Do I actually need to have the medical and submit the results before I can file the DSL-1076 with all the required documents and the medical result .... or can I file the DSL_1076 and then have the medical while I wait for an interview time/date...

Ive read thru all the links provided in the pk 3 letter and all the stuff found here at the forums but all Ive done is confuse myself ... The checklist is what stumps me, the instructions say to make arrangements for the medical but then you get to the checklist its indicating that the results should be submitted with the other paperwork ...

I was hoping to file the DSL-1076 before doing the medical and saving the time I have to wait for appointment time with the doc and getting test results back ... I spose in the grand scheme of things another month compared to 4 years of waiting is nothing but as we get closer the more frustrating it gets ....

Today is the Tomorrow, you worried about Yesterday .....

The results of the medical need to be submitted along with everything else. Are you getting it done at the Anzac Square Medical Center? If so they are really quick.. I called to make my appointment on Thursday and they were able to fit me in the following Monday. I had the exam, including blood test and lung x-ray and received everything back from them 2 days later (the delay is because you have to wait for the lab to do the bloodwork). My results came in an unsealed envelope and the instructions were to make 2 copies for myself and send the originals along to the Consulate. So in total it took about a week, and during that time I was able to get the other documents I needed together.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for answering Kaffy ... It definately helps a lot!! at least I have a clear picture in my head now ... Im trying desperately to get everything to file by the end of the month ...

Im really happy atm ...overall its been a rather productive day... postman just arrived I recieved 2 packages with a bunch of papers I need and 2 valentines from Shay (L) ... Im just waiting for his affidavit of support and other odds and ends that go with it ... hoping to have medical within the next week or two .... I also need to redo the DS-156 because theyre not accepting hand written copies anymore ...

And YUP Im doing the medical at Anzac Square ... Im a bit nervous ... LOL Im fairly confident I dont have any nasty contagious diseases but Im worried about being overweight ... Ive looked at all the medical thing related to visas and googled a bit and nothing is mentioned but Im still concerned ...

---

Another thing that is worrying me is the evidence of an ongoing relationship ... We have daily contact via phone and have keep records ... Usually we talk about 1.5- 2hours a day when his working and 3-4 hours a day on his days off .... Because we spend so much time on the phone we've never really had a need to send each other emails or letters .... I have a stack of birthday, valantine and christmas cards ... Obviously we have a lot of picture from when he came to Oz for 5.5 weeks and Im planning to burn those to disc to take with me alone with half a dozen or so developed ones ... Is this going to be enough evidence?

I had a strong dislike for most of the food while there in Oz, but I do have to give it to you guys when it comes to chocolate! Top deck and the hazelnut flavored, swirlie one are a tie. Oh, and Tim Tams. When I go back again, I plan on bringing an extra suit case for those and bottles of Bundy!!

Can't answer most of this as I'm right behind you in the process, but I do know that they will not accept any discs so you're better off getting any printed that you want to take with you. Good luck!

Don't be nervous about the medical :) It's really basic and straightforward... and remember to have some water before your appointment because you will have to give a urine sample

Discs are a backup ... Im staying with a friend for few days so if they need anything it will be ready for printing ... I was going to take about half a dozen of us on different outtings and about the same of us with other people, like my mum, her hubby etc ...
