We were going to get married the next day on the Friday because thats the only day that they do it. But I just can't stomach the thought of getting married on Friday the 13th. *sigh* why does it have to be so complicated? We're leaving LA before the following Friday...

Do you guys have any suggestions?

awe my mom was born on Friday the 13th and she is sitting here reading with me and she says that it is still a good day and that you should get married. Don't think about the number. Think about the day. You will be with your man! YAY!!!! and that is all that really matters.... besides, it will probably be sunny on Friday the 13th lol

Ohhh adn thank you for the information on the SSN. I would rather get an RFE than pay those fines so that's what I will do too. *hugs*

Speaking of SSN...

Got my SSN! POE was 20/6 and received it in the mail today 28/6! I did end up putting our last names inside the mailbox. I just took a couple of shipping labels, sharpie'd our last names and voila. I can now start looking for a driving ed. Though Im more interested in shopping for furniture for our house lol.

Sounds like your making good progress w/ the driving Kath!

Jess, adding to what Rings said, I think Fri 13th is quite cool and if there is no other alternative -- just think that its really the 14th in Oz time :P

I read that CSC is having system delays w/ NOA and approval notices.

hi guys

i've been reading posts from all over the world about how they have to send packet 3 back to their consulate - now would they be using Packet 3 as a general name for the form you post back to the consulate to tell them your ready?...

Thanks guys for your advice :) Part of the anxiety that I didn't mention is we'd have to go on Thursday to get the marriage license. Since I arrive on Thursday, an hour and a half before they close, the whole thing became too stressful for me! I just can't see that happening in time.

You'll be pleased to know that I think I've found a workable solution, the County of Los Angeles only does the marriage civil ceremony on a friday (except for one place) but Orange County does it Monday to Friday without an appointment. Driving 40 minutes to OC is infinately easier than mucking around with the previous plan. At this stage I think we can get the license on the Friday then get married the following Monday or Tuesday. His family still get to witness it and I don't have to marry on Friday the 13th OR rush from the airport like a maniac. Everybody is happy.

I'll keep you guys posted on what happens since this isn't in concrete. I emailed Tony with those details and he'll give them a ring to make sure things are as I image. :)

***

Sharyna, on VJ a lot of the time "sending in packet 3" is kind of short hand for sending in the letter of readiness. In the same fashion, when you receive "packet 4" you'll discover that its not a packet at all! Actually, its just a letter with your interview time and list of things you need to bring in the proper order!

Having said that, every consulate around the world does things a little differently, maybe some other countries send in more stuff ahead of time than us in Sydney. Thats why its a good idea for people from Australia to pay closest attention to the experiences and posts of other Australians since only then can you be sure that you're getting the right info.

Awe Jezz... I am so glad that you have found a workable solution to this. I hope that he goes for it and that it all works out for you! *hugs*

Kath you are a doll. Loke is nervous and getting rid of his stuff left and right. We are hoping that he will catch the flight on the 15th of this month. I am working on the AOS and he is working on the interview stuff. He already has all of my paperwork and he is all set.

Hey does anyone know if they keep any of your documents? Do they actually keep the AOS there? I am wondering because I made myself a duplicate copy of it in case I will need one, but when we adjust status I know we will need that so I was trying to take the lazy way out if I could. Anyway it won't be a big problem if I have to make another copy but I was hoping that they will actually give that back.

I hope you are all doing well!!!!

They had the I-134 on his checklist so I sent it to him and he has it. They told me that he can bring the I-134 Affidavit of Support to his interview so I sent it to him. The I-864 is required for the Adjustment of Status so I was getting that ready, but it essentailly calls for all the same things. I was just going to add the I-864 to that if I could and double check the list of document requirements for it (add ####### here and there) I was confused too because they are both Affidavits of Support, but slightly different. I was just going to do them both so that I didn't miss a beat. So now I am working on the I-864 and it looks basically the same as the I-134. I have copies of that and I was going to change the cover sheets and stuff, but I wanted to avoid extra work if neccessary. I am a nut for making sure it's right.

excuse me for being awfully silly :P

There's just so much information on this site that keeps crisscrossing between the different visas that I get confused.

I was under the impression, for a IR1/CR1/I-130 visa, you need the Affidavit of Support at the interview. Now, I maybe getting confused between the I-864 and the I-134, however, reading through http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html, it makes no mention about *ME* having to provide it at the interview. So is it just something that NVC sends the embassy and I don't need to worry about it?

Being as things take 2-3 weeks to be delivered, whilst it's not James's Shortcuts, any way I can cut the time down is good in my eyes, and I'm just trying to pre-empt any sidetracks. If my husband has to send me any forms, I'd like to know now, since he seems to take 2-3 weeks to get to the post office, let alone get it delivered x.X

The Saga Continues *dumdeduuummm*

August - phone NVC. intriguing :\ Phoned again, ah hah! the truth... no record of us >< losers... Go and visit Dave for 3 months...

hi ya niph

take a look at the guidelines for CR1/IR1 in visajourney..in there it gives you an idea what you need to do mate..

also take a look at some of hampsters posts he did the same visa journey and he posted what he needed to take to the interview...

the Petitioner needs to send the affidavit of support and from what i remember reading of hampsters posts it was the I-184 that his wife filled out and sent to him..

CR1/IR1 GUIDELINES

hope that was some kind of help to you.. and it should only take a week from the states to get to you by post...

well were off now on holidays...see you at the end of july if got connection down in them hills will check in on you's...

take care

On my husbands checklist in packet 3, it askes only for the I-134 Affidavit of Support for the K3 Visa interview. I also e-mailed the consulate and asked them and they said that he should bring that to the interview with him.

Now I am looking at the requirements to change his status so that we can hopefully get that in before the rate increase. The change of status calls for the I-864 Affidavit of Support as well. Should I just send them both since I have a duplicate copy of the I-134? Why do they need both? Does the Australian Embassy keep the I-134 without forwarding it?

Am I over thinking this?

x.X wow thanks! It... still confuses me :P but I am reading them and it's clearing up some other things :D (only had to go back 40 pages ;p)

I think it's the vague wording in the 'official' explanations thats doing it... especially with 'originals'. *shrugs* Doesn't he send the 'original' to the NVC? Or does that mean original tax returns?

NVC don't take into account postal mistakes :P and well... taking into account weekends and all the holidays we aussies enjoy, it sure does seem like 2 weeks, though actually.. it is really only a week and a half o.O maybe I'm adding in a few days for them to get their butts into gear and working on it lol. Hi All...

Q for the SSN and GC holders -- does your SSN and Green card have your middle name? Mine doesnt and lol I changed my passport to INCLUDE my middle name and I was told that a legal name = first and last name and middle name doesnt matter but I still might change my SSN depending on what my GC says. I figure Im only holding on the GC until I apply for citizenship, and so it will only be 3 years but then I dont want to have any complications especially when I travel.

Thanks all!
