Transferring K1 fees

This is a little off-subject but with regards to the fees required for the K1, my fiance & I are trying to split the cost. My bank has told me they do not cash checks from England & wiring the money is going to cost at least $30 from what I've checked into. I thought I'd see if any of you have had experience with this & how you managed to transfer funds? It seems like there should be a cheaper way out there but maybe I'm crazy.

Well, there are the petition costs (455$ + postage & other little things like printing/copying costs) And then there are the visa application costs ($350 + medical, ~190 pounds + postage +document fees, police cert, birth cert, etc) It seems to me that if each pays for their side - meaning you for the petition, and he for the visa application, it actually means that you'll be doing a net transferring money over to England instead.

I know it's a bit tangential, to your question but it doesn't seem to make sense to have the money just coming back (to US for 1/2 of the 455 fee) and forth (to the UK for your 1/2 of the visa fees) like that needlessly.

I agree with Nik&Heather that you could just pay for your side of things. However, if you need to transfer money you could do it via PayPal. There is a small fee I believe, but not as much as $30. I would look into it.

I have a debit card on my Paypal account, so if we need to send money back and forth for anything (paying for the wedding, etc.) we can use Paypal and I can either take it out of an ATM or use the debit card itself. It only takes about a week to get one in, doesn't cost anything to get, and is very convenient.

My fiance wires me money from the U.K. My bank charges me about $15 to receive the transfer and his bank charges something like the equivalent of $20-$25. Because the pound is worth more than the dollar, it offsets the costs. For example, if I need $300 and he sends 300 pounds, it is something like $500. Instead of sending me what I need in dollars, he sends it in pounds. It allows me to handle our finances without issues.

I thought I had a solution to this issue when I saw your PayPal suggestion!

But, the PayPal account needs to be open more than 60 days before you're eligible for the debit card and I'd need the card within 2-1/2 weeks..

Oh well... time to think some more...
