I got dinged on my mid-year review for working from home more often than the approved once a week. It's a fu##ing joke.

If your not there then you cant be managed. Which justifies your managers paycheck. My company believes if I need to be managed then im not doing my job.

Actually, it's more complicated than that. We have a new member on the team, a guy with 20+ years of seniority and he's very unhappy to be working with us. They gave him an average rating for 2009 (average is bad) and the recent shifts in management attitudes have to do with all the whining and complaining he's been doing. I used to work from home a lot more in 2009 and it never came up then.

eta: and yes, i even have it in writing from my manager in 2008 and 2009 that I am "self managed" and require "little to no supervision". It was a good thing then. Something has changed.

Maybe the guy has something on someone higher up and they are doing the run him out routine through the HR dept.

Time will tell. I'd love to see him transferred out. I'd rather they not lay him off. He's only 2 years away from having his pension and company-paid medical benefits for the rest of his life. Laying him off now would be an act of cruelty

a pension and benefits that will depress your salary......

Yes, it would. But he was promised and he's put in his time with the company. Plus, he has chronic health issues and it would be good for him.

As for me, I've already learned the only way to "catch up" on salary is to change employers from time to time.

the Irish government felt that combating debt was more important that jump-starting the economy.

Despite what the politicians tell you, you can't "jump start" an economy - it's not a fuckin lawnmower.

No, it isn't a lawnmower. But you can start an upward economic cycle by creating demand. It's been done time and again and it's worked time and again. Look at Germany and then tell me that the "jump-start" the German government provided for the German economy has failed.

hyper inflation is coming soon
I am very secure in my convictions. I will save my money, reduce my debt

If you're so secure in your convictions and if you're so sure that we're going to have hyperinflation then why the ** would you even consider reducing your debt and saving your money? Hyperinflation would virtually erase any debt you have today and make any savings meaningless. If you truly believe we're heading down the road of hyperinflation then you'd be unconcerned with or even rack up that debt (which will cost you only pennies on the dollar to repay) and you wouldn't keep a dollar in the bank (since, according to you it'll be worth only pennies, or fractions thereof, soon). If you secure in your convictions, then live by them. Do the right thing!

Go ahead and act as if all is well. We will see who is right shortly. For the sake of the nation I hope you are right but I really doubt it. We are heading for a storm so big it will make the great depression look like a party.

You haven't addressed the issue that your actions run counter to your predictions. Only the stupid would pay down debt and save money in the face of inevitable hyperinflation.

I am saving my money and paying down my debt in case I lose my job. If hyper inflation comes nothing I do short of buying a lot of gold will help. I am doing what I can to protect my family. Spending money when hard times are coming is the hight of stupidity.

So you're not even nearly as convinced as you made it seem that we're heading towards hyperinflation? It's not a certainty and most certainly not inevitable?

Put the shoe on the other foot. If you think that consumer spending is the way out then borrow a bunch of money, put yourself in debt and spend, spend ,spend. Lets see who is in better shape 5 years from now.
