Insha'allah. One of my best friends and I are at odds because of this masjid issue. She was a staunch, absolutely ridiculous liberal when we met. It took me 11 years to convert her to conservatism just to have her become someone I can no longer speak to. The constant drum beat of irrationality around me is starting to negatively affect my views of my own neighbors, which saddens me.

I was on a local radio show last week to debate the host, who was against the mosque, calling it "sacrilegious". I was treated quite shabbily and he was unable to refute my arguments with any intelligence due to not being challenged about it before. He resorted to derision, spoke over me, and put me on hold so I couldn't respond to his mischaracterization of my position before hanging up on me. Those have always been leftist tactics, but the Right is also resistant to rationality, and this mosque issue is a test they have failed miserably.

I could have told you the moment you went on talk radio that what happened to you would happen. I have yet to see a talk show host who wanted to actually discuss a topic. After about three minutes they usually start going rabid.

People bring dogs everywhere, these folks seem like they are trying to create a scene where none exists.

I'm not sure about other countries, but Muslims in Singapore are not allowed to touch dogs, because I believe they say that they are "unclean", kinda like how they (much like Jews) do not eat pork or pork products, or food made with lard et cetera.

Case in point, we have little cafés with outdoor seating in Singapore, and one of my favourite ones is a place that sells Malay and Indian-Muslim food. I was there one time enjoying my mutton murtabak when an American lady was walking her dog THROUGH the café, and the owner politely asked her to leave her dog 20ft away from the café so as not to offend them or their customers, to which the lady said that she was American and can do whatever she damned well pleased.

After a short exchange, someone later explained to her why her dog wasn't allowed, but she continued to say that it "wasn't (her) problem, too bad."

It's more than those 19, and you know it. Pretending it's only those 19 is plain ignorance. Of course most Muslims are peaceful, but there is an extremely deadly minority that are ignore by the rest.

It is very common for businesses, home owners and EVEN CHURCHES to run into opposition when they try to build or add on.

People are concerned about..

Road traffic

Environmental impact.

Zoning changes it might bring.

and a dozen other issues... including "community impact".

I thought the article was rather clear on what "concerns" the protesters had:

They are afraid the 15-acre site that was once farmland will be turned into a terrorist training ground for Muslim militants bent on overthrowing the U.S. government.

I was pointing of the tolerance of the Christian religion. We all know governments are corrupt. I see you're silent on my other posts.

Once again the words of those that oppose the mosque are worse than the actions of Muslim extremists (burning churches and people alive).

P.S. Let them build a mosque near ground zero. But the oh so sensitive Muslims shouldn't be surprised if people are upset.
