Which brings us back around to the position being tailor made for someone who couldn't be trusted with the full authority of a moderator.
The excellent Susita, appointed after Charles was, is another Regional Moderator.
If you're not offended by the use of the term, then why would you bother requesting that others stop using it?
Because use of the neutral (official) term enables readers to concentrate on the persuasive content of posted messages, rather than on implied or overt personality conflicts or intended insults to people or to the system. Regarding the making of my own statement, I felt no wedgie, frontal or otherwise, and continue to feel none, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yeah, I noted earlier that I believed we had some new regional moderators, and certainly my disparaging remarks don't encompass said others.

The fact that I know next to nothing about Susita gives credibility to your "excellent" rating. :D

You are way overthinking this.

Am I doing a bad job? Is that why I'm being called a junior woodchuck? I am new, this is true and still learning.

I came into the UK forum in response to a report I received about baiting. After reviewing the report, and conferring with other mods who wound up agreeing that it was a baiting post, I posted a warning to not bait and did not remove any posts or do anything else.

As far as I'm concerned if anyone thinks I'm doing a poor job or made an error all you have to do is tell me this or tell Ewok.

I was brought on as a regional moderator to mostly moderate the Latin America & Caribbean forum because I'm bilingual. I have 3 little ones at home and can't contribute the amount of time necessary to be a global mod. I help out in the regionals when needed.

By the way, thanks TBoneTX... that was very nice of you mi amigo.

Yeah, no complaints from me Susita. :)

The position of regional moderator (I think that's what it's officially called?) was created for a single individual because even back then, Ewok understood that this single individual couldn't be trusted to handle the responsibilities of a real moderator, and so created a position where any damage would be limited in scope. (why such a person was elevated to *any* level of responsibility at all is still beyond my ability to grasp)

The position was created because the regional forums have a lot of dialog and flavor that is not always well understood by those mods and members that do not post there as frequently. Since then we have added several other regional mods to help out. This is not a "lesser" role but more of a rule crafted to a specific area of the site. There are currently three regional mods and five global mods.

You probably just didn't notice them - they were mostly in the PI forum. I think the first was Sheriff Uling, and there were others too.

Yes he was (Uling was the first). @Mox, I enabled that role after many conversations in this very forum and with the mods where people said a regional moderator would be good. It was not made for Charles and was done long before.

Fair enough. I do remember Sheriff Uling, thought he was a regular mod, but if you say he was a regional mod then I believe. :) But my larger point still stands: the reason for promotion to less-than-a-moderator instead of a full moderator was obvious. Ewok even backed that up with his "give him a chance" and "the past is the past" pep talks. (Ewok will probably dispute this, but all you need to do is visit the link in my previous post, and it's painfully obvious that this was not a promotion based on merit or ability.)

And again, if he wants to uphold the TOS instead of violate it, and if he wants to treat members with the respect they deserve, then I'll reciprocate. Until then, "Junior Woodchuck Moderator" is about the mildest of terms I can think of.

I said to give him a chance because you immediately attacked him and said it was the worst decision since (name the bad historical event). I felt it was only fair before you insulted him to allow him time int he regional forums to work and get used to the role.

I guess I wonder if each regional forum would be better off with a deputy mod that is particularly sensitive to the needs of that sub-forum. One need only look at what has been happening in the UK forum recently to see that someone more familiar with the personalities and interaction between them might have handled things more sensitively. When moderation feels more like it is coming from within rather than without, there might be less resistance to intervention. I for one would make a TERRIBLE mod, but I can think of several commonsense UK VJ people who would fit that role very nicely -- don't take sides, play nicely and have sufficient gravitas to carry it off.

Just some food for thought. :)
