When you hire mods based on a popularity contest (or who you are personally friends with) (and I'm not talking about the most recent hire) instead of demonstrated ability to actually moderate in the truest sense of the word, this is what you get.

Armchair quarterbacking is much better, eh?

If moderators were elected under a democratic election process, would that suit you? How about random selection? Or, how about post count? Which method would you prefer to see employed to select a moderator?

What people need to fully appreciate this is that this site is not a democracy, or anything close to it. It's a privately owned and run website and all this bitching and moaning about the moderation serves little purpose other than to vent at someone. Because in the end, if you don't like how the site is run, you always have the ultimate recourse.

Once again, nebulous "loosely enforced" TOS in OT for the win. And slowly but surely that laissez faire attitude has crept into other areas of VJ.

When you hire mods based on a popularity contest (or who you are personally friends with) (and I'm not talking about the most recent hire) instead of demonstrated ability to actually moderate in the truest sense of the word, this is what you get.

What are you on about? If you understood the selection process, you would understand that there is no bias whatsoever. How about contributing to this forum, instead of complaining about it mox? If anyone searches your last 100 posts, they will see mostly complaints. Why is that? State your purpose here...

Oh yes, the old "if you don't like it then leave" argument. Because the possibility that I might actually see something good about this site and want change couldn't possibly occur to you, could it?

And yes, this site is private, and it's completely up to the management on how to run it. And so I wouldn't give a rat's *ss how it was run if it weren't for the fact that Ewok and the moderators continually say that they encourage open and honest discussion. If they're going to say it, then I don't have a problem holding them to it. You shouldn't either.

I am contributing. I'm contributing in the only way that seems to be effective. If you don't like my decision, you should escalate it to Ewok.

So why not suggest a method? The question wasn't rhetorical in the slightest. You made an observation about the process and how you saw its results, yet you left it hanging.

It's that type of post and the response to mine, evading the central point, that fosters peoples' belief that you only come here to complain. Why not add a constructive suggestion along with the complaint? You say you want change, yet you never propose what specifics you want to see changed, or how you would change it.

What I would like to see changed is how you choose to address people who challenge your opinions and assumptions. That you might want to see change didn't just occur to me, it veritably slapped me in the face it was that obvious. That is why I asked the question. That you mistook my question for something other than a simple question is not my failing.

I note "dumpster sluts" still remains 12 hours after reporting it and calling it out on 2 heavily mod read threads. I know mods have their priorities....but try to pretend you care about "profanity".... :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

I have just reviewed the Report Center - an automatic logging of all reports and all actions taken on every single report. There is NO report from you at all within the last 12 hours, nor within the last 24 hours. There is NO report of the above mentioned item. Please provide a link and we will 'address' the situation. Please note - the Report Center is a software feature over which no one of the moderation team has any control and we cannot do any sort of editing of its functions. If it has been reported, it is recorded in the Report Center.

I'm not trying to tell you that I have bunches of golden nuggets of wisdom, far from it. But back in the day I was also a bright eyed optimist just like you. I thought my concerns were listened to, and I thought the dialog I had with the current farm of moderators actually amounted to something. I'm sorry but I'm not going to spell it all out, but the nutshell version is that no actually, this crew doesn't give a damn about what you think or I think or anybody else.

So I'm sorry if I seem crass. This site helped me through a lot, and I had a bit more to go through than a lot of people here, although my sob story isn't near as bad as some others either. In any case, I *want* VJ to succeed. And that's why I'm so vocal. I've tried the other ways. I've tried talking it out, submitting tickets, etc etc. It doesn't work.

Sadly, you don't see the bigger picture Mox. We do care about the members here and that is why we attempt to fairly moderate this website for free.

Stop complaining and open your eyes to the level of effort we moderators commit to VisaJourney.
