The title of this game is "What are the odds"? :D

Here's the short, fun, and unchangeable facts: Fiance is in school in Venezula for 3 years. I can't move there right now, so we're not getting married for 3 years. Which means she can't immigrate for 3 years.... :(

I want to TRY and get a tourist visa for her so she can come visit on her next vacation and get a chance to see my country.

But in terms of things to tie her to the country and ensure her return, she has very little:

-no money

-no kids

-no marriage

-no car

-no career

She has exactly TWO things to tie her to Venezuela:

-she owns 1/2 of a house

-she is 2 years into a 5 year dental school program.

-she wants to study dental surgery in the USA when she's done in Venezuela and could check out schools on her visit. (probably a negative, not a positive)

The house probably doesn't count for much, so that just leaves the school. By the time her consulate interview would come around, she would be done with 3 years of a 5 year program. It seems like a valid excuse to return for me: 2 free years of school in Venezuela.... or stay in the USA illegally, eventually try to go to school on false paperwork, go for 8 years paying through the nose. Heck, I'd go back!!! But, will the Consular officer see it that way?? Is a half completed doctors degree enough to give her even a really slim chance of getting approved??

As my father used to say, "ye have not because ye ask not" ...... right?

Well, school and 1/2 a house is better than nothing.

I suggest you get a mortgage document listing her as the part owner of the house. I also suggest you get a letter from the registrar from the school she is in listing the fact that she has paid tuition and is expected to return at _____ date to complete her program. It should also list the length of the program and how many years she has completed.

I don't know if she is dealing with a difficult consulate but I do know that you can't get a tourist visa unless you apply

Good luck

As my father used to say, "ye have not because ye ask not" ...... right?

Family ties - parents, siblings etc. would be most helpful. Other things - freinds, activities, clubs or other social ties. Part time job.

Property always helps, lack of money always hurts. Dental school - not sure - but probably helps. Looking for schools in the USA - I wouldn't mention that. B2 visitors visa is for tourism and pleasure, not business.

As long as you guys can afford the cost of the application, there is no negative to trying. If it was me, I would just go ahead. As far as applying - she will submit the application not you. You may be able to help with an i-134 (affadavit of support) and invitation letter but she will have to qualify based on her own circumstances.

I've seen the term "crapshoot" applied to this process a lot lately and I would have to disagree. It is unpredictable but it's not totally random. The biggest random factor is the personality of the CO at the interview, and you really have no control over that. Beyond that, they are really looking for a relatively specific set of ties that show she will return to her country. And also they are looking at factors that will make it more likely for her not to return.

I would guess she won't have the easiest time getting approved, but people have got approved with less. I would say your father's advice applies here. You won't know until you try.

Hey

I hope you are doing great

As you can see I am venezuelan and I went through the same thing a year ago... My fiance and I were not ready yet to start my imigration process so I gave it a shot and applied for a Tourist visa.. to be honest it was just a waste of time and money FOR ME.. it is sometimes hard to prove you have enough ties to go back to your country! so I had a denial with my tourist visa.. but I think its all about luck and if the person who interview her is in a good mood!.. sounds dumb, but its true!.. I saw people with business and so many things to get denials .. and at the same time see people who were only students to get it approved .. this is all about luck so tell her to give it a shot.. who knows, maybe she will be one of the lucky ones :)

I say ... ask her to take a letter from her school... ask her to save enough money for her trip.. and you should send her an invitation letter .. saying that you want to invite her to spend time with you "Never mention you are dating her or anything" and you wont be lying at all so .. everything will be good... I was asked for an invitation letter and didnt have one :S so yeah good luck

The honest to God answer: slim to none. But like others have said, you'll never know if you don't try.
