Hello everyone!

My wife has filed for my immigration and AOS around a week back. I would be expecting the biometrics appointment letter to arrive by the 25th of August. Now, I got a call from India yesterday informing me about my grandmother being admitted in the hospital, almost breathing her last. The doctors have all but given up.

My question here is whether I can go to the USCIS office with the doctor's letters and all the remaining proofs to expedite my AP well before my biometrics are done? If yes, what else would I require in terms of documents? I can just barely wait getting it done, but I dont want to leave without the AP document.

Thank you.

You have my sympathies.

My understanding is that the IO at the Infopass appointment will want a doctor's note/letter (which you should be able to have faxed from India, if you don't have them already) documenting the serious nature of your Grandmother's illness. Obviously this will have to be in english, and/or translated. That should be all of the documentation they need.

When my AP documents arrived, they used the passport photo I had sent with the I-131 for the picture. They did not use the photo from my biometrics appointment (which became my GC photo), so the biometrics not being done yet should not be a big problem for the AP documents. You may need to reschedule the AP appointment, when it arrives. Make sure you've got someone reliable checking you email so they con contact you in India the instant anything from USCIS arrives.

Do not leave without the AP document in hand. Even if you have to pick it up on the way to the airport.

DON'T PANIC

Thank you so much for your reply. I already have asked my uncle to fax me the doctor's note on the hospital's letter-head. I hope the fax would suffice. Now, I haven't as yet received the NOAs from USCIS. Would i require the NOAs to take with me at the infopass appointment (that i have scheduled on the 16th, this monday)?

Secondly, what is the AP appointment that you mentioned? Do they not just normally mail the AP? Or is there an appointment/interview for that?

Thanks a lot again!

My symphathy ...

You should have your NOA for your AP submitted and received by the USCIS. Get an infopass appointment and bring your NOA along with the doctors letter from India. To make sure bring along 2 passport size photos with you. They will expidite the processing of your AP and might have it few days after your appointment. Do not leave the US without your AP

There is no 'normal appointment' for AP, alas. Don't sweat that one, at all.

HOWEVER, what you are DOING at the InfoPass Appointment -

is to expedite the AP. And that's the point, yes?

Good Luck !

Thank you so much :) So, I can basically expedite the AP before my biometrics appointment letter comes. That's a relief!

I understand that my infopass appointment would be to 'expedite the AP'. Why i asked about the 'AP appointment' was because in one of the first replies to my query, the words 'AP appointment' were mentioned. That's it. But thanks a lot for your concern and reply. I appreciate!

seriously, in the 'normal course of events' with USCIS and ACS, there is NO appointment for Advanced Parole.

I'm thinking that poster mis-spoke a bit, trying to imbue concept of 'infopass to get expedited AP'.

Good Luck !

D'oh! By "AP appointment" I meant "biometrics appointment."

Thanks everyone for the help till here.

We have filed the documents for AOS on the 10th of August, but the cheques haven't been cashed till today and hence, we haven't received NOAs. I called up USCIS today and then informed that I need to wait 10 days after filing, to get the receipt. So, I have two more days to wait.

I was trying to make an infopass appointment, but there is none available in the next 10 days. Can i just go for a walk-in, as this is an emergency situation? WIll they allow me in? Is it any better to expedite the AP on the phone?

i suggest you try 'face to face'.

You'll need to get through the security guards, so without an appointment or appointment letter to show the security guards,

yer gonna have to sweet talk the security guards into letting you through the doors.

It'll be hit or miss, but you can try it.

Thanks :) Aah well, i hope my luck doesn't let me down! And from what I have been hearing (reading), it seems like they do allow emergency walk-ins without being too harsh on them. Pray it works out!
