Let's try to verify if the varicella shots are really necessary to complete. I have heard anecdotal reports that it is NOT necessary to complete the varicella series for the civil surgeon. Like a jackass, I coughed up $125 bucks to get them done just prior to the civil surgeon. I really think one doesn't have to stress about getting the varicella shots done ASAP, prior to marriage and getting your lady on your company insurance plan prior before marriage.

No shot are required to be "complete" per se, they simply need to be "up to date" at the time of filing. As the OP said, their tDap stated "insufficient time interval" which means the shot series isn't complete, but there wasn't enough time for them to put it up to date... basically they are NOT allowed to make you get the entire series before signing the form, they just give you enough shots to have you up to date.

For example, the HPV series (though no longer required is a good example) requires 3 shots. The first, then the second 3 months later, the 3rd 6 months later. If at the time of doing my K1 I had the first HPV shot, that's fine in order to get into the US, then as long as 3 months had passed by the time I did the I-693 then I would have the second HPV and then I'm fine to AOS because I'm up to date. The 3rd may never get done (though I would) because you are not allowed to be delayed because of it.

I have been to a civil surgeon and they stated the vaccinations where updated in november 2009 and you also need hep A and hep B now anyone have any updates on this? Or they just trying to get more noney out of me?

Also that the blood work now needs to be for RPR and not syphillus? Sorry if I have hijacked this thread :)

Here is the CS guidebook (updated Dec 14, 2009): http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html

Here is the Jan 2010 vaccination schedule: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/PDF/wk/mm5901-Immunization.pdf

Here is the USCIS list of required shots: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=3384cc5222ff5210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=6abe6d26d17df110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD

Hep A and B are on the list, but it's not for ALL people, it depends on several things as you an see from the 2nd link I posted on page 2 there's a table. Show your CS the latest from JANUARY (print it yourself even). It's the CDC's list and they can't ignore it. i.e. unless you have any of the risk factors mentioned in the table, then you DON'T get it

On our Vaccination checklist worksheet from Manila the ones for Hep were checked as "not age appropriate" The one I had a question on was the varicella shots and our second round of Tdap since she had one but "insufficient time interval" was checked.

I talked to the CS on the phone yesterday and I explained what was on our Vaccination checklist. I asked if we could take care of everything in one visit. He said that for varicella shots we need to take a blood test to see if it's really needed. The shot for this is expensive he said. Then we can come back 2 days later for the blood result. The Tdap shot can be given and no other physical is needed.

The total cost would be $30 for the paperwork and $40 for the Tdap shot. That's at the Santa Ana CS that was recommended above. Thanks for that :)
