Justin,

Not.

- The travel expenses may or may not apply to many of us. Although I met my wife on the internet I had for several years been taking my vacations in her country - meeting her just changed the details of how I spent my vacations.

- My monthly expenses due to long-distance courting did not increase anywhere near as dramatically as indicated. Wise shopping can be applied to these items as well as to the local supermarket or mall.

- The marriage-related expenses are not immigration related - they apply whether one marries a USC or a foreigner.

Fiancé Visa – The Financials Exposed!

....

Yodrak, while it is true that a lot of the expenses for Marriage-related expenses are not immigration related. There are extra expenses that do apply when one marries a foreigner. For example if the foreigner spouse does not have a command of the English language it can be hard for that person to find a job. A USC to USC marriage may not have this problem with language skills or lack of employment. Further a foreign spouse will have higher expenses because of international long distance rates, shipping rates, and travel expenses when visiting or talking with their family. Another expense is that many foreigners have a tendency to eat familiar foods and these native or cultural food items can be hard to come by and very expensive to buy in the USA.

While this article is not an exact case for everyone--I don't see how nearly all of you could vote missed the bus. The Poll choices might have been provided better selections--perhaps an Accurate or a Little Accurate instead of Very and Somewhat as these are pretty much synonymous answers.

oh my .... madness!! why would you include the price of rings and the wedding and the honeymoon, that is all stuff that you would encounter regardless of who you were marrying. The only additional expenses for a forgein bride are the immigration and visits. Being the foreign bride, so to speak, i know that i paid for more than my fair share of the immigration process and flying to and from the USA.

This guide is just a little bit (did I say little, I meant a lot) overpriced. In my case, we stayed at each other's homes every visit, and our plane costs were never more than 700 USD per trip. Our rings were donated by my parents (but I'm sure a lot of people can find rings at a discounted price) and we only had to pay for the resizing. None of the 'additional costs' really count, as my fiancee is fluent in English and such. Really, I can't see the entire process costing more than $5000.00 for us, even including airfair for all the trips.

While I think it's high, I am spending much more than I thought I would. However, I am doing a lot of things for our relationship that aren't really necessary and I could do it for a lot less. Since I have financial resources and my fiance has none, I am paying all of it.

 Looks like an invoice for the purchase of a bride. IMO, who gives a ####### what you spend?

EXACTLY MY POINT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares what it cost? It's amazing how simple people

can get and totally miss the big picture. Also in defence of the gentle with the spread

sheet; why blast this guy? He s giving an opinion....take it or leave it. I also believe

that one cannot attach a dollar amount to love But everyone is allowed and opinion

and should be afforded some amount of respect. CHILL OUT PEOPLE. The process

is hard and long enough.

WOW!

2-years ago I wrote this article and conciously never looked at all the replies. People tend to get one sided if they do not agree with something other people write.

So, today I sat down and read some of your replies... interesting. One thing everyone forgets, is that all situations are unique. As in my case, my (now wife) ;-) .... lived in a small city in the Ukraine and spoke NO ENGLISH. So things line translation was needed for us - over the phone and for email... she did not even own a computer, but had to go to an agency for help. Since it was a small city, I could never get bargans on phone rates, like 5c/min to Moscow, but the best you can get to Dnepropetrovsk (via vonage) is 13c/m... just some other aspects to consider.

So, I never knew I could create so much buzz... but thanx for everyone's input... and yes, I DID WRITE THIS ARTICLE from scrach.

Keep well all- -

Justin

Still think you're a bit of a nutter for counting the honeymoon as part of the immigration process, especially with the 'THIS IS HOW MUCH IT COST ME TO BUY A WIFE LOOK WHAT I SACRIFICED' vibe coming from it.

I still don't understand how you can fall in love with someone, I mean really and truly connect and fall in love with someone with whom you don't share a common language....

Good point. If you can't communicate how can you fall inlove? Only with an image? How is this working?
