Just wondering for people arriving on CR 1 visa, how long does it take to get your green card? Does it really take 6 months as stated? Thanks all

I think it depends on which state you are.

I was told by the officer at our last visit to USCIS that all Immigrant Visa-entrant cards are produced in Texas, and every story I've read has the card arriving in 3-4 weeks, which was our experience too.

No comment anymore on the SSA thing. If you guys aren't going to wait the 3 weeks, don't tick the 'yes' box.

No wonder the word on the street is 'it doesn't work'. :(

We went to SSA office exactly 2 weeks after entry - just to check if our name in system or not. They don't even know whether we should have the SSN automatic and apparently our name was not even in the system. We came back several days later, still nothing in the system on my name. The SS lady suggest we file in our application with her. 1 week later, the SSN arrives. We do not know where is it from, the automatic DS 230 or the lady.
