Hello everyone, I need your help. My husband has his green card at this time. When we began the immigration process to get his visa, the Egyptian army granted him permission to travel because he had a medical excuse delaying his education, which means he was still "in school" at the time. It has been about 2 years and he hasn't sent the school anything to continue the delay. My question is, if we were to travel back to Egypt to see his family, could the Egyptian Army take him if he is a Permanent Resident?

Thank you!

Thank you. What do you think is the chance that would happen? And when would they not be able to take him?

If he is still under the age of 30 it is most likely they will take him to serve when he goes back for a visit unless he's enrolled in school here and takes care of the paperwork stateside before to go there. A young man in a couple like us with two small kids recently went back to Egypt to visit his family. He was enrolled in school here but didn't take care of the paperwork before going over there. He was also a LPR here. They didn't let him leave because he didn't take care of his paperwork. He still needed the "free to leave" paper from the military even though he had a green card and a young family back home. The Egyptian Military didn't care and he is currently serving his mandatory duty for two years in Egypt. It was a very sad situation. After their service they can be called for anytime up to the next 9 years to service again. These recalls are usually when a government project is happening or they need to fill their numbers quota for something. The recalls only lasts up to 21 days as well and never more than that. If they are recalled while they are abroad and they miss it and go for a visit again they can show they were abroad and it is ok.

If he wants to avoid his mandatory duty all together then he will want to wait until he is 30 years of age. After that when he returns for a visit he will need to obtain a lawyer to represent him if he wants to leave again and he will have to pay the Egyptian Military a fine of a few hundred dollars up to several thousand. If they know he has a foreign spouse and lives in the US the price goes up.

Best wishes to you both. (F)

That is absolutely terrible!! The paperwork you are talking about...are these papers for the Egyptian Army or papers to fill out on the US side? Also, I have heard that the army can be paid off. Do you know of anyone that has done that? Also, if he applies for citizenship, they cannot take him, correct?

well, let me tell you this in easy way , its one of 3 .

1st : come back and show them that he lives in the US and they wont take him anyways because they dont take who is married to any foreign person and who even been to a foreign countries before .

2- wait till he get he citizenship then come by his US passport

3- come after he get 30.

Beautiful patience.

But Sam, I think that they will still take him anyway, even if he has a whole life in the US. I remember the government in Egypt does not care about anyone, even if they are married to a foreign citizen. If they know that, they will take him anyway. How do you know about the first option? Do you have a story kaman? Thank you so much for your response, I appreciate all the help!

Well its called (political Refuse).really they will not take him , All my friends been to the army and they tell me about everything there , they tell them to make 2 lines , the guys whom are married to foreign citizens or have anyone in their family out side egypt come to the right line and the rest to the left line .

then they fill some papers and then give him another date to come. in that date they will tell him one of 2 delayed or refused to enter the army and because he is living in the US for 2 years , he will 100000% be rejected .

and i just wanna know if he is muslim or chrisitian if i may ask.

Beautiful patience.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but have a question that maybe Sam can answer. My fiance's father is deceased and he currently has military release until age 29, right now he is supporting his family and at 29 his brother will be out of college and I guess the Egyptian army feels the brother can take over the support. So my question is, does that mean he is only eligible to serve in the army for 1 year? And if he returned for a visit like the OP husband after his waiver is up will they automatically excuse him again because he will be married to a US citizen?

Well, i don't think i got what you said but i will answer to what i understood, IF he is just your fiancee and you didn't marry him yet and his dad is dead , then he will get outa the army because his dad is dead.and if he is married to you and his dad is dead , he still wont get to the army.so if one of those 2 reasons are apply to you then you are safe , if you have another circumstances i didn't understand so feel free to tell me it.

Best regards

Sam
