Hi,

Has anyone crossed out "five years" and hand written "three" instead on the N400 form before? I am looking at the travel, and obviously since my wife has been here for only 3 years, I don't see why the USCIS would be interested in her travels while she lived in another county..

Hi Mark,

You are correct - this only applies for 3 years instead of the default 5 years mentioned on the form. Basically, they are interested since she became a LPR and not the exact 5 years....

I don't think it is necessary to cross out the 5 years, even though she's been here for only 3. If she entered legally, they have a record of how long she's been here. And you don't need to list her travels while she lived in another country. They're only interested in how long she's been living here in the states since she became a resident.

We planned to cross out the five years and write three but we forgot. I'm sure they understand and don't mind.
