That's a personal decision you've made, to 'not get it' , over time. You created a new account because yer prior account was closed. Are you certain, really, that VJ is the right place for you to hang out?

All I see is you asking people the same question. Obviously, the answer is yes, since they're here. You're not the admin of this site, get over it.

Hrmmm, the UK forum has never had such 'negative' activity since it got busy. I know, cos I had a hand in starting that place up, so basically I've been there from dot. Dunno if this has anything to do with my run in last week, but if so, I'd appreciate being called out instead of this 'oh few threads survive' bollocks. I'd be surprised if there were 10 threads in there closed.

PS I missed the thread in question. Drat.

The OP asked for it to be closed and invisibilised. That's her prerogative. I can understand the closure, but the removal is over the top in my opinion. Still, her prerogative.

There are PLENTY of new threads that survive. Clearly we are reading different versions of VJ.

http://www.visajourn...t-here-with-me/ Open

Some of those had potential to turn into sh!tstorms but they didn't. So we had some topics closed, BFD. The UK sub-forum has never been all hugs and girlie sleepovers, but it is still a supportive, informed and intelligent (for VJ) place. Let's keep it that way by respecting, as you have pointed out yourself, that we have differing points of view on style. The substance of posts, though, should be respected. It follows that those of us who have been on there for years might have a bit more perspective on how things work. I don't give a sh!t if someone calls DOS 8,453 times a day, but I have the right to point out that a) it's pointless and b) stress-inducing. How do I know this? I did it too, and I watched other people after me do it too. It doesn't do anything, doesn't even make you "feel better" in a nebulous way. The advice at that point, since it was clear the OP didn't want to take it, was out there more for others who might read the thread after and actually think before calling DOS repeatedly. However, with the thread gone, that advice is absent. Oh well. Such is VJ.

You typed all that for nothing, hon ;)

Happy, I would assume you know that your run in last week was over the top, and I don't think you need me to come and point it out to you directly. You lost your temper which does and will happen from time to time, and is understandable and expected, but since I don't see you acting that way on a regular basis I don't feel the need to go around spouting how horrid you are on an individual basis for getting upset once and perhaps having a less than mature reaction to something. (I don't mean that in a snide manner.)

However, I don't think it's bollocks to say there are threads being closed. Maven posted 5, I can find at least 4 in the same time frame that were closed 50% by the OP and 50% by admin. 9 posts used in the examples and almost half of them were closed because they were off topic and/or TOS violations.

The UK forum USED to be one of my favorite places to come and chat...Everyone there has something in common...a link that should draw personalities from all over together. It was fun and silly with the occassional tough love. Now, every day I go look for useful information and what I see instead is a small number of new posts and a lot of drama. Kind of ruins the experience.

However, once again this topic is getting off of the point, and the point is again simply:

WHY do the admin just remove or lock the posts instead of weeding out the offending parts and leaving the solid information?

I don't see how you can hold anyone responsible for threads the OP asked to be closed.

As for everything else, 50% of 4 is 2.

So out of 9, 2 were closed by admin and you think that's a big problem?

WHY do the admin just remove or lock the posts instead of weeding out the offending parts and leaving the solid information?

They're volunteers. They don't get paid.

It's a lot like asking why the people who pick up the phone at USCIS and/or DoS are such schmucks. It's because they're retarded monkeys living in their basement doing this for (very little) extra money reading off a script.

Because the OP's got tired of the various drama or because the thread was taken so far off off topic they requested it to get away from the nonsense.

Legacy,

I fail to see where or why you even feel the need to comment on this thread. Are you a moderator? Are you a site admin person? In any way shape or fashion are you able to truly help/answer/resolve my original questions? Are you part of the UK forums where this issue has originated?

You've done nothing productive on this thread. Until you do, I have nothing more to say to you or your bait attempts.

Sorry, I was unclear. Maybe. The links I posted were all to OPEN threads started recently. Only three threads have been closed recently. Some statistics from the UK sub-forum about closed and invisibilised threads:

2010: 6 closed, of which 2 invisibilised (NB: 4 of these were started by MelissaJulian; the other invisibilised thread was shirorisu having a full-scale meltdown)

2009: 0 closed, 0 invisibilised

2008: 2 closed, of which 1 invisibilised (NB: the closed one was the end of a year long topic and closed due to size; the invisibilised one had been posted in error)

2007: 12 closed, of which 1 invisibilised (NB: 4 of these were started by homesick_american)

You may find this interesting reading, from 3 years ago (I remember this all too well). http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/74581-uk-posts-being-made-invisible/

This is NOT anything new. VJ attitudes go in waves -- sometimes we all get along, sometimes we don't. Right now we're not. It will revert.

Legacy,

I fail to see where or why you even feel the need to comment on this thread.

Because you posted it. TOS does not require that I be in any way associated with site administration in order to respond to your thread.

Are you part of the UK forums where this issue has originated?

If I was, you'd have heard from me earlier ;)

Jill, he has been on here for ages, much longer than me. He's seen a hell of a lot more than me, and has close friends amongst the UK contingent. He has a clue what is happening in there, and as a long time member he has an interest in how the site is run. And I think it's wrong to say he's not adding anything -- he's asking provocative questions so we can try and suss things out. He's not baiting -- he's trying to further debate.

Thanks, M.

The site has always had posters like her - people who think you're being offensive or trolling if you do anything but wholeheartedly embrace their favorite cause.

Clearly it still does. But I think it's nuts to disagree with the tenor of a "lower" forum, whether it be the UK sub-forum or OT, and then tell the people who post there that they are doing it WRONG. Ignore the sh!t you don't like and post what you do. Do you think I post even 10% of what I think I'd like to post over a given day? Nope. I know that there are some people and topics to stay away from. It makes me feel a lot better not to engage. I've been on the end of the pointy stick too and it hurts when its your real life being raked over the coals.

Who can forget H_A? Wow.

Gosh, yes, Homesick American. I recall that she was another one I spent ages in PM with. Although she was awkward, I recall she had Asperger's Syndrome, which caused her people skills to, well, suck. :P

I would have posted this 10 minutes ago, however, I've just had a major screaming fit from the spider I found crawling ON MY SHOULDER.

And put it all in perspective. Are even HALF the things that are getting to people worth them getting their knickers in a twist for?
