Thanks, My wife is getting all her shots (she says she feels like a mascot right now). It will be interesting to see if it is still being accepted, I keep getting stuff for the I-130 and have two very diferent case numbers. As long as everything is not completely in english she will do alright since according to the consulate I cant acompany in her and have to wait outside.

My wife was approved for both the k3 and IR1. In our case, I wouldn't have traded the k3 visa for gold bullion. We both worked in her home country, so got her a K3 and she was able to visit the US multiple times during this whole process.

We waited close to our two year anniversary and filed IR1. she received her SS card 10 days after entering with IR1 and received her 10 yr. GC in about a month's time.

Now we are waiting for her RE entry permit so she can stay outside the U.S. for work reasons for two years.

The K3 isn't such a raw deal for those living/working overseas. Fortunately for my wife, both our interviews were as easy as they get. 5 minutes.

FYI, those pursuing K3 and CR/IR visa simultaneously should know that the K3 visa has an alien # or GC # assigned to the file that will be completely different from your CR/IR alien registration. When my wife was approved for her K3, paperwork from USCIS,NVC and consulate showed her an alien #. When she enterd the US the first time, we took this number and her K3 stamp to get her driver's permit and license.

When my wife got approved for IR1, she was assigned a new alien registratoin #. This number ended up becoming her GreenCard number. All this means is that had my wife adjusted her status with her K3, she would have received a greencard# that was assigned to her K3. It's no big deal, but some people might get confused and assume the K3 alien number will be the same as the IR/CR alien number.

**** filed K3/CR1 concurrently. My wife and I both work/live overseas. The following timeline continues from the approval of the K3 VISA.

if you gave your info (receipt #s, full name, etc) to anyone on VJ under the guise that they would "help" you through the immigration journey with his inside contacts (like his sister at USCIS) ... please contact OLUInquiries@dhs.gov, and go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact to report anything suspicious. Contact your congressman and senator's offices as well.

I wouldn't say that the K-3 is 'very lucky' since, when granted, there is a heafty adjustment of status fee attached.

Where is your I-130? Have you done anything in the way of submitting documents to it?

Good luck

Hi Canadian_Wife... please do tell... how heafty of a price are we talking about???

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

$1010 for Adjustment of Status.

dont forget CR1/IR1 has a $88 and $404 charge during the process, so K-3 is $518 more overall.

K-3 and CR1/IR1 both have advantages... if it's all about price, go for the latter, but the former has benefits that are applicable to some people which could be valuable.
