Never thought of what you mention, good point. I wonder so basically we have to wait until the day of or a date after our 2 yr GC approval issue date before we can be interviewed? Or can we do the interview ahead of that date but just have to wait until after that date to take the oath? Or does it matter since we were allowed to file 90 days in advance of our GC issue date and 3 yrs after being married to US citizen? Now you got me thinking what ifs? :innocent:

on the date you file you must have been married to AND living with your USC spouse continuously for 3 years. I was in the UK for the 3 months before my GC started so I had to prove residence there in that 90 days before I flew.

AND it must be no more than 90 days before the third anniversary of you FIRST GC (conditional or not)

My GC is 5th november and I filed 9th august - 88 days. We can do all stages before the GC anniversary incl interview - but the ceremony must be on or after.

Ok I have been in USA since May 1, 2007 living with and married to same US person for over 3 years now even when I filed on 8/18. 8/18/10 was 90 days to 11/15 which is when I got my 2 yr GC approved or it is the date on the GC. Thus I mailed it off one day in advance so it would it arrive in USCIS mail the exact day to file or one day after so like day 89.

So basically I would have to sit and wait until sometime after 11/15 to take the oath no matter if I got interview and biometric approved and done prior to 11/15. That is depressing, hope that does not slow me down, was hoping for interview and approval and oath out of way by 11/15 which I might still get if I do biometric in mid Sept and interview in mid to late October, then another 2 weeks or so and it is 15h of Nov! So about on pace for a 90 day approval, thinking positive once again.

So basically what you made me realize is no matter what I cannot officially take oath and get citizenship certificate until 11/15 or later this year! Was hoping to get it done before then and go apply for passport before end of year, looks like I will have to wait until after 1st of year now, doubt everything is updated in USCIS system, it will be like when I first arrived 3 years ago, took them like 3-4 weeks to get my information and status inputed into the state dept system and social security system along with any and all other agencies, which I am sure it will be same with agency handling passports, even if I file and apply for passport it may sit for several weeks until they get notification it is ok to issue passport and verification I am US citizen then. Oh well no travel plans for me this year at end of fall or winter out of USA. :bonk:

No - you get your certificate at the ceremony; walk across the road to the post office and apply for the passport same day. That is what I am doing.

Pay expedited processing and overnight return so you get it in 7 to 10 days.

Download the form and fill it in and take it to the ceremony so you can skip across to the post office (passport designated post office)

No - you get your certificate at the ceremony;AGREED walk across the road to the post office and apply for the passport same day. That is what I am doing. Only problem is though, I remember when I first arrived here in USA and handed over my k1 packet to border patrol agent at airport, it took USCIS like 3-4 weeks before they inputed all that information into their system or passed it on to share with social security office and state dept office and other agencies, see what I mean is even if you apply same day for passport after oath ceremony it will be delayed by at least 2-4 weeks until USCIS updates their records to state dept and every other agency involved with issuing a passport, cause of USCIS not sharing that information asap, there is a lag time. For example, I applied for my social security card 2 weeks exactly after I arrived and they would not issue me a card and told me I did not exist in their system yet and it was because of USCIS not updating their records in timely manner so I had to call and check about every 3 days for next two weeks at social security office until finally they received a update in their system from USCIS and issued me a social security card. So I am sure it will be the same way again with a passport, I was going to plan on allowing 3-4 weeks to pass before I even bothered to try and apply for passport due to this.

Pay expedited processing and overnight return so you get it in 7 to 10 days. Still good idea you have and Would work great if not for USCIS being so slow

Download the form and fill it in and take it to the ceremony so you can skip across to the post office (passport designated post office)

you don't need ss and uscis to update their systems- you have an actual certificate in your hand after the ceremony. You can apply for the passport immediately - 5 minutes later. The certificate is the only proof the passport people need.

You will have your passport in your hand by the end of November if your ceremony is same day as interview.

If the ceremony is end of november you will have your passport by 15 december

Used to be $65-$85 range for a new one I was told but not sure what it is now and the rates were due to rise and change soon. I think renewals were like $50-$75 but were going up also. Wish they issued them for 20 years instead of 10 at the rates they charge for one! I also think you can only get them done now in US post office, used to get them in county seat courthouse but not sure if you can apply there anymore. I read all this 3 years ago when trying to figure out all these forms to file and steps to take and fees to pay, all overwhelming! Anyway better go look up US State Dept website and find out for certain what the new fees and procedures are now.

Like I said you have a great idea and I am going to try it, but I just do not have much faith in USCIS, I hope I am wrong and you are right and it works like you say. I just remembered how it was 3 years ago.

Believe me I am right.

At the ceremony you are totally DIVORCED from the USCIS

You have your divorce paper (the certificate of citizenship)

which is now your birth certicate as it were

It's now between you and the department of state for the passport

The uscis is just a horrible memory at that stage and their records are irrelevant and so is ss

The certificate is all that matters. You have to send the original and they send it back - scary - but they NEVER lose it

You are mentally and emotionally scarred by the GC thing - so am I. It's 3 years and I am just getting over it !

But this bit means freedom from the USCIS and it will be instant !

You will soon be paddling in the Chome More

When we become Americans and have the chip inserted under our skulls, we will say that $135 is cheap to carry the passport of the finest country that has ever existed in the history of the world (Mitt Romney)

I prefer to say 'it's cheap to escape the USCIS' as it's less of a mouthful
