Do they do same day ceremonies at your place ? If so, you could finish before me...

I believe they do if Derek can get an interview time early enough in the day. Otherwise I am not sure when they schedule.

And if wishes were horses everyone would ride. My money is still on you finishing first but with USCIS anything can happen!

i need to change my interview date.. :D i rescheduled it to nov. 9, 2010

the supervisor just emailed me my interview notice

and i didn't get anything about what to bring

Online touch: case has been transferred to a local office: Nov 2, 2010 (field office, Newark, NJ)

I have never heard of someone having a lawyer with them at the naturalization interview. But if you take your lawyer with you to job interviews, it's probably a good idea to pay him a $1,000 to hold your hand before going in to the N-400 . . . alone.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . If everything is straightforward and there are no worries, then no need for an attorney. I had one when I did my naturalization only because I had been denied before. But even then, there really was no need.

This question is frequently asked. Not all offices allow your attorney to be in the interview room. Some offices allow it. Some do not. It depends on your local office. Your immigration attorney should know the local practice of your area. Ask your immigration attorney, if you have one, or ask them when you call up attorneys in your area. If your case is pretty standard and straight forward, there's no need for an attorney to accompany you. If you have real or serious problems you anticipate being brought up at the interview then it might be a good idea if your local office allows you to bring an attorney.

congratulations! mine's on tuesday! hopefully all goes well and i pass too lol

and when i do, i'll probably have to stay in the uscis office the whole day or come back in the afternoon since i'll be at fairfax,VA to have same day oath ^_^

If they ask how many senators, the lawyer has to clear his throat 100 times. If they ask how many Reps, it's 435 times and they might get suspicious.

Only Al Capone and Blagojavich takes their lawyer with them. Lawyer present is like a pre-nup - red flag.

sorry, Mate, not sure if I'd say it's a red flag to have a lawyer present, but perhaps it is.

More importantly, me thinks, unlike at an AOS interview where the attorney can interrupt the I.O. to say: "I'm sorry, but my client is not going to answer this question, not even if you deport him again to the hellhole he crawled out" there's no need for an attorney to even be in the room at the naturalization interview, which is why the he has the value of a valet or driver, keeping an eye on the car while the interview is going on.

If you don't speak English at all, you won't become a US citizen. If you don't know the answers to the few intelligence-insulting civic questions, you won't become a US citizen. If you raped a bunch of school girls way back when or are guilty of a shooting spree somewhere, you won't become a US citizen. If you're a drug dealer, you won't become a US citizen. If you're a Nazi or terrorist, you won't become a US citizen. And if you don't meet the residency requirement, you won't become a US citizen either.

The rest of us will become US citizens, simply because there's no way to reject us if we meet the requirements and didn't mess up royally.

With, or without a lawyer waiting outside, the procedure is the same. So why exactly would anybody hire a lawyer?

If anyone deported me to the hellhole I crawled out of - (Darwen, Lancashire for 10 months), I would rent a car and drive over the Pennines to North Yorkshire - the garden of Eden but without talking snakes and unauthorised rib extractions.
