Hello,

My bag was stolen over the weekend while visiting in the US and the original NOA2 was in it. My fiance called USCIS and they explained we had to go to their site and fill out the I824 and mail it to them... however it says the fee is $340. That just seems ridiculous. Has anyone else needed a replacement copy and can add some advice? We already lost $2000 in property and important documents for my Visa and my medical is next week so I don't have time for this re-filling non-sense.

Thank you!

T

Hey T, you should call Dr. Seiden I believe they really only looked at my checklist when registering me for my medical to get my case #. If you don't have that...you could also mention what happened and if you know your case # they may let you do it anyways with no paperwork....

You may still need to get a copy of the NOA2 for teh interview but atleast it won't impede your medical....sorry again....

You will need a copy of the NOA2 for the filing of the AOS. It's your call, not USCIS. Refer to the I-485 form part 2c for AOS.

I am about to loose it.

The NOA2 is needed for the interview, which I expect to be in about 2 months or so (I hope)... but I was going to bring it to the medical because I never received my notice from NVC. It takes CSC at least 3 MONTHS to file a I-824 (replacement I-797 aka NOA2). The fee IS $340, and if you want that waived you need to send a waiver request and in my case she said, an expedite request to Chicago. IF the waiver request is denied then you still need to go through CSC for a new copy. This is absolutely ridiculous. These items were stolen from a US Army base, I did not lose them or was negligent.

Every single person on this base (even up the chain of command) has been urging us to skip the Visa and just have me move here and we marry and file for AOS, it's how everyone else has done it and they all were approved no problem. But me being a good person and all wanted to do this the right and legal way and now I'm just getting effed over big time. Sad part is this is just the next piece of bad news in a string of bad news we've been getting over the last 4 days.

No the hotline is useless haha. We spoke with claims here so that is our only hope is that the Colonel sees our case fit for paying me back what was stolen. I've mailed off a request for expedite AND a request for the fees waived, so we'll see how that goes.

Really feeling like the government doesn't help out those of us who are trying to do right. We would of done this last year but my fiance left for Iraq, and I went w/ the Canadian Forces to do a civilian contract with Joint Task Force Afghanistan. Guess we're paying for not going with our original plan and heading to the desert instead huh?

Oh Tater! That is horrible! Hugs!

Maybe if you get a little angry on the phone & ask to speak to the supervisor they may send you a courtesy copy. That's what we had to do when we never received our first copy in the mail. Call again. Don't give up.

Let us know the outcome.

Isn't the Montreal consulate notoriously slow for interviews? You might get the NOA2 in time for the interview, although I wasn't asked for it at the London consulate. Are you sure you need it for that?

I believe she had already mentionned that her copies were electronic...and therefore are in the stolen laptop.

I know my FI keeps everything electronically....which we lost when his computor crashed...we now are proud owners of a back up drive....

It is slightly less ridiculous than carrying around your original NOA2. Pay the fee, get the document, you will need it. Keep it in a safe place. If you feel some need to carry it around...don't. Make a copy. NO ONE needs the original for anything in this process.

Why is it when people make irresponsible mistakes they think that what they must do to correct their error is "nonsense"?
