No it can't. It only shows how popular a movie is with the general movie-going public.

And that's not reality, how?

The film studios don't judge audience opinion based on ticket sales. By then its too late.

So they don't take into account similar movies and similar audiences? They don't base thier judgement on the REALITY of how the last movie did? They don't base their casting based on the REALITY of how people will view that actor?

Obviously our realities differ on many things, but I'd think the severeral million people who watch movies every weekend are some indication of what really happens in the real world.

I think you're losing touch with your own argument.

Your earlier argument was that the preconceptions of studio executives that affect casting decisions are driven by "reality".

You then cited ticket sales as proof of this "reality". I told you that there is no way to tell by ticket sales exactly what made a given movie succesful or not.

There are pre-screenings of films before they air nationally. As a result of that, certain things may change (the ending of a film may be completely changed because an audience doesn't respond well to it, for example). But there is nothing in the questionaires that they give out that asks people whether they would have preferred a black/pakistani/arab/asian actor in the lead role.

Whatever they base those determinations on, it is done behind closed doors.

I have no interest in Barbra Streisand. Should I say it again?

Perhaps bigger print will do the trick.

I agree, Streisand sucks.

And John Wayne doesn't suck but he isn't all that either.

You know... you point out that there were in fact much better actors that John Wayne around during his time and anyone would think you'd taken a whizz in their family bible.

I liked Wayne in The Searchers, but that's about it.

And I liked Mecha-Streisand in South Park, but that's about it.

Just announced - Slumdog Millionaire: The Sequel is set for production and thanks to the advances in computer animation, John Wayne will be playing the lead role. His granddaughter said she's hoping that this time, people will recognize his acting range.

You would never make fun of Mohammad the Prophet this way, what gives you the right to mock John Wayne?

You are despicable.
