Hi Zeban, et al.

I agree with you. If my wife had not got her passport within six months of her applying for the visa, I would be scrambling for PCCs to cover all the time between when she turned 16 till now. This document, which is both a link from the state.gov site and the chennai site specifically state that:

"Applicants whose passports were issued within six months of the visa interview may present just the passport office certificate."

I get this from the following official sources:

http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/packet4chlst.html

confirmed by Chennai and Mumbai (pretty clear, according to the table):

http://chennai.usconsulate.gov/pdfs/packet-4/infoforivapplicants091027.pdf

http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivpolicecertificates.html

Kolkata and Hyderabad don't do immigrant visas, I checked their websites.

confirmed by private sources, i.e. law offices:

http://www.***removed***/immigration/police-certificates.html

http://www.visapro.com/Immigration-Articles/?a=1447&z=39

http://www.murthy.com/news/UDudpcin.html

couple others like indiamike.com also confirmed this.

Again, I think the key is how long ago the passport was issued. If the passport was issued six months or later after the interview date, you'll need a local PCC. Otherwise, the one from the local passport office suffices. The main reason is because the local PCC is necessary for the passport to be approved in the first place.

For those of you are getting multiple PCCs please continue to do so unless in your case your beneficiary's Passport was issued in India less than six months before a tentative interview date.

Hope this helps!

I totally agree with Kaash on the above post.

In most of the cases, the beneficiary will have their passport issued more than 6 months and need local PCC and PP office PCC.

Now how do we calculate this 6 months timeframe? It is the time difference between the Consulate interview date and PP issue date. By the time most of the people get the interview date, this 6 months will be very well elapsed :-)

Loto,

"Within six months of the interview." So the key date is the interview. If the interview date is more than six months beyond when the passport was issued, then we would need additional PCCs. Yeah most people will have to get the local pcc too. In my case, I was lucky (hahaha) that the passport was issued really late, so we have some leeway.

Both my PCCs were just over 6 months by the time I had my interview.

I got it while I was waiting for my NOA2 in early November and I didn't have my interview till mid-May.

Chennai and Delhi seem to be strict on the 6 month rule thingie--Mumbai not so much, at least, in my experience.

PCCs for immigration purposes are supposed to be valid for 1 year.

A VJ member personally called up all 3 consulates. Delhi and Chennai said 6 months while Mumbai said 1 year.

There is a thread available here in which VJ user DanielParul makes an interesting comment. She emailed the New Delhi embassy about how many Local PCCs were required. In her situation she lived in several cities after age 16.

The reply from the Embassy seems to imply that all you need is one Local/District PCC and one Passport PCC. The response from the Embassy also seems to imply that there is an order in which you should obtain the PCCs - first from the Local/District PS - followed by the Passport PCC.

I bookmarked that thread because it has a lot of other good information as well.

My wife's situation somewhat matches that of DanielParul - because she has lived in 2 locations since age 16. However somehow my wife obtained the Passport PCC first, and is still working on the Local PCC.

Anyhow, India is a crazy place, but just wanted to point out that thread as it is useful.

Thanks for that thread! and yes, india is a crazy place. :)

zeban can you please post ur experience as and when it gets updated? Please..

Yea absolutely. So far the police officer called my wife this morning and asked for her passport photos (more, ive already given them 6 now!) He said dont worry, the officer who approves it is back in town, i need them immediatley, hopefully you will have it soon.

Everything else is done. im going to have my wife get the MEA stamp on the Local PCC and my BC attested as well as hers, as soon as thats done i will get the documents here. I got the attested documents and sent them this past tuesday, wife received them on Friday. I scanned and emailed the document to the police officer, he told my wife he doesnt need the original anymore. You never know, i just had my wife hang onto it. I will update as time goes one for sure.

Wife got her Passport PCC in Gujarat! Well, they will mail it to her in 3 days.

She said it was easy and they gave her no troubles after showing the IV coverletter and receipt. No need for a checklist.

NVC only, we are still awaiting the interview date.

smsgrl2009 - I see you got your interview date. Congrats ! Are you still planning on getting a Local/District PCC before the interview date ?

I just called Chennai US Consulate, and she said the local PCC is NOT required. What the HELL should i do, should i wait another 20 days for my local PCC or should i submit it to the NVC without local PCC or just wait?

Zeban - are you still waiting for the local PCC, or did you already submit everything in the DS-230 package without the local PCC?

For beneficiary who are from gujarat. They still need to get local pcc, but they don't have to submit it to the NVC. NVC only require passport pcc, but in order to get passport pcc .. one has to submit original local police pcc.

kruz_patz - what is the source of info you are using? Where are you looking to confirm the NVC only needs the passport PCC?

Right now I am still waiting for the Police PCC and it seems to just drag on. Every week they say it will take another week - so I have no idea when I will actually get it. At this point the wait does not seem worth it, especially if NVC is really in fact accepting simply the Passport PCC and you can get the Local PCC for the interview.

Has anyone else to date, so far sent only the Passport PCC to the NVC ?

We are not getting the local PCC...our checklist letter for interview said we had all documents required except for medical .... we are however postponing the interview. My husband was out of town when we got our date assigned and his work will not give him the time off he needs to go to Chennai for the medical in time for the interview. I have to call the embassy after September 15 to get an October date assigned...

I am leaning now towards sending my DS-230 package without the District PCC included. My wife told me today she does not know when the District PCC will be delivered and it could take another month from today. I am not sure entirely what the reason for the delay, but it seems the police are very hard to deal with in Delhi.
