I can't get into college football either. It a huge thing here in SC. But honestly I never understood how someone who did not go to that school could be able to get so into a team of a school they didn't attend.... but stranger things happen.

And yes the Jets have a long way to go, But I have to disagree with the statement that they "only have a defense". They lead the league in rushing last year, yes they got rid of Thomas Jones & Leon Washington but honestly with L.T. and Shone Green w/ the O-line they have only real thing that needs tweaking is Sanchez and the receiving core (which is crucial) But I'm the most excited I have been in a long time to watch the Jets. Plus, Rex Ryan how can you not love that guy????.

This season should be good. First game looks like it should be a good one I've already adjusted my work schedule to be able to get home an hour after the 1 o'clock games begin on Sundays. Thank god for DVR's!

I don't get it either. Some of the dumbest hillbillies I know get tattoos of colleges they wouldn't even be allowed to step foot in. At least with the NFL, my tax dollars pay for their stadium so I'm kind of like a part-owner!

Thank god for DVR's!

I like 'em just to be able to watch a game in under three hours. Nothing like watching the whole game in just over two hours!

I think the NFL guys are just so dang good I watch college and they don't impress me.

Agree the pros are much better but it makes the game more boring in my opinion. The college players are not as good but that and their excitement make for a funner game in my opinion.

I used to love great defenses in my youth, Steelers, Bronocs, Bears but three and out all game long is now boring to me. Give me poor tackles and blown coverages.

I like a good 1-0 baseball game and NASCAR too so I see where you're coming from. College can be more exciting but I can't get into 63-6 blowouts every single weekend. To me, that's just not competition. I guess I'm more intrigued by the struggle for inches than the allure of the big play.

Give me poor tackles and blown coverages.

You really should check out the Bengals. Although this year, it seems we're going to have a lot less of that. (*Fingers crossed*)

Did anyone here every play football competitively in high school or college?

I played in high school and would've played in college but enlisted in the military instead.

When I say "would've played in college" I don't mean Notre Dame or USC... I mean somewhere like Eastern Kentucky or Morehead State. I maybe could've tried to walk-on here at UC (Cincinnati) but I probably would've been on the practice squad. I wasn't "mean enough" until after I got out of the military.

I've often thought about returning to school just to play a little ball somewhere. I'm sure if I went to a small school I could at least be a second or third teamer, maybe even special teams, but standing next to those UC guys at the grocery store or Subway gets me every time. Them boys are BIIIIG now! I know I'm tougher and meaner than them and could still kick their @$$es a little bit, but they don't grow 'em like they used to and I'm way too fat and out of shape to be playing all day long. My knees and ankles would be gone!

I can still long snap over 20 yards, kick a 40+ yard field goal and punt 50 yards on a good day. Plus, I'm pretty fast for a white boy. The problem is I could only go about five plays before I'd need oxygen!

I shock people in backyard games and go from being picked last to picked first at the company picnic. I used to love playing intramurals in the AF because we'd smoke everybody. Who knows, maybe someday if I get my wind back (my wife's working on me - we run quite a bit now) I could maybe play again. I went through technical training with a dude in the AF who was 35 years old and played at a JUCO in So. Cal. Needless to say he was on my team when we played squad ball!

I miss it. I love it. It'll always be one of those things that makes us American. I'm sad that kids nowadays can't throw a spiral or catch a ball. They darn sure aren't going to tackle someone. When you ask them if they're any good at football they tell you it hurts their thumbs. Silly bastards!

How tall are you and how much do you weigh? Or if you don't want to say, how tall were you and how much did you weigh back when you played in high school?

Right now I'm 5'8" and around 215. I'm still pretty stocky but I'm probably about 20 lbs of chubiness. If I was going to play, I'd drop to around 200 and probably hold right around there. When I finished my technical training in the AF, I was a very lean 185. I've bulked up about 15 lbs since then. The rest is fat.

In HS I was little when I was a freshman and got bigger every year. 10th grade is when I really "got big" and went from about 5'5" 155 to 5'8" 180. I bulked up to about 190 my senior year.

But, as you can see, 5'8" at any weight doesn't really give me much hope to play at a higher level. It certainly wouldn't be impossible, especially on special teams or as a fullback, maybe even something like an outside linbacker or free safety. But the way those guys are today, even corners are taller and weigh about the same. Plus, they've probably got a little bit more pep in their step than I do. Those kids today are super fast. And it's not like the old days when blitzing the quarterback meant running around a 300lb. lineman that runs a 5.1. Today, it means running around a 350lb. lineman that runs a 4.6.

Yes true, I was mostly just talking smack because we (Dolphins) beat you twice last year.

I played college ball, well it was flag football at a community college. :D
