First of all thanks to everyone who has been sharing very valuable information on this forum, it really helps people like me who are totally new to this process.

My brother in law's sister had filed for Greencard for him in Dec2001, last week he got a letter from USCIS with NVC case number and Invoice ID number, DS 3032 is also attached with this letter. I have a few questions on what the next steps are:

1) I thought that his sister (the petitioner) also will get a letter from USCIS asking her to pay the Affidavit of support (AOS) fee, she hasn't got this letter yet, can we pay the AOS fee using the NVC case number and Invoice ID number or should we wait for her to get the letter?

2) I am planning to add me as one of the sponsors since his sister doesn't work/live in the US anymore, when do I submit the I864 ?

3) After the AOS fees is paid, what are the next steps?

4) My sister's name and their kids names(13 yrs and 11 yrs old) are not added, how do we get their names added?

5) What are the next steps?

6) Roughly how much time does it take between paying the AOS fee and visa interview at the consulate in India? Do we get to pick the dates for the interview?

7) Assuming all goes well how much time do they have between their GC interview and the final date when they need to be in US?

Thanks in advance for the responses, I really appreciate your help.

First, Welcome..Just before i answer, just remember.." Be Proactive rather than reactive and Don't wait for anything from NVC.

  1. Yes,provided you have a bank account in the US.If you had called the NVC(603-334-0700) and provided the petitioner(Sister) and beneficiary email address, then you could have saved lot of time instead of receiving it in postal mail. Anyways, you can speed up now..Ask the beneficiary(BIL) to call the NVC and update his email address. Also as the Petitioner is out of US, update the change of address through the link
  2. You can add yourself as the cosponsor and you have to file the I-864a.The petitioner has to still submit the I-864, even though there is no income
  3. When u pay the AOS fees online, after 2-3 days barcoded coversheet will appear in the Payment Portal . You have to print that and attach with the AOS package for postal mailing
  4. Your Sister's name and kids can be added as derivatives in the DS-230 form.Meanwhile call NVC and update their details too.
  5. Most of the next steps can be known by reading this complete thread or by going through the below links..They can be applied to F4 Visas too.
    1. LingChe_NVC_ShortCut
    2. LOTO's Gyan

[*]The faster you can provide the information to the NVC, the sooner will be your interview. NVC/Consulate schedules the Interview, you can reschedule. But You cannot pick the dates.[*]After the Visa is approved, you have 6 months to enter US. If you want to delay the process before the interview, then you can do postal mail than online.

Good Luck..:star:

Do send the DS 3032(Choice of Agent Form). The beneficiary should sign this document and then you can scan and send through email to NVCInquiry@state.gov.

It is better to choose the agent in the US as it is easier to receive mails and also faster.

You can help the future F4 filers here with your expertise..

I have not been able to find a single other F4 filer who has had their interview within the USA. Cross your fingers that our interview date comes quickly so I can post about my experience. :innocent:

I couldn't agree more..:hehe:

When i came to VJ initially, i felt the same too..:bonk:. So, thought, I atleast create a single thread for F4 Category Filers and store all the experiences and expertise based on the long wait and short term memory loss..:). You can do some "Good Karma" for future F4 filers..(F)

Well on behalf of all of us I thank you for starting this thread! Only those experiencing this journey truly understand how frustrating and difficult it can be. The worst is always not knowing what to expect and this is one area this website community really helps with. Better yet if they are after the exact same visa. Your initiative in starting this will help all of us and many to follow

case was completed on 11/4/2010 through electronic processing. it's been a little slow lately, but ideally, when should we expect to be contacted regarding the interview date?

Welcome Overstreet..:)

Good to know that a FB4 Visa member is getting the processing electronically.

But most of them here are getting things done through 'NVC Human'ly...:bonk:

Right now the only inhouse expert is VJ member "Darnell"..

Once u r done with your interview, then we will ask U more questions and consider you as the FB4 Electronic Processing Expert..

Right now i can only provide the link to Electronic Processing

Good Luck for the Interview..:star:
