Hi Guys,

My fiance has filed K1 petition for me. I am guessing my interview will be sometime around Octorber '10 as per timeline. And my passport has expiration date of March '11. I think K1 visas are for 6 months validity. I have not been asked to renew my passport.

But I am worried that should I renew it?

Should I renew it without being asked? because the petition has copies of the current passport and if I renew it will it create any problem?

Really need your advise guys.

Thanks in Advance.

J

Renew it - you won't have any problems with visa - it's still the same name, no changes. Besides, if you want to travel later on outside the US, you must have a valid passport.

You really should renew it to avoid any potential problems at the Embassy when it comes time to interview and to give you many years of a valid passport when you do arrive in the US under your K-1 visa.

I would say renew it, I dont know wht city u r in India, but in Mumbai now days your can get a passport in 20-30 days.

Only do the 10 yrs one, lot of the countries have stop accepting the passport which have validity over 10 yrs.

I know for sure EU does not accept your passport with validity over 10 yrs, they would not stamp visa on it.
