Really? Perhaps you should tell that to the American's who's great-grandparents were slaves.

Those are exactly the people who the 14th was interpreted to give citizenship to.

And for the record, the diverse "melting pot" doesn't say anything about them sneaking into the country illegally. It doesn't say anything about "you have the RIGHT to come to the USA." As to those who've been born here, it says they have a right to be American if their parents are subject to the jurisdiction of the US. Illegals ARE NOT subject to the jurisdiction of the US unless we make them subject.

The American dream used to consist of coming to America for an opportunity to make a better life for you and your family, through hard work and ingenuity. The disastrous effects of social programs is very obvious and as this so called dependent class grows, so grows the animosity of the ones who are paying for it. If this continues it will implode on itself such as it is now. Being envious of anothers wealth via the constant bonbardment from past and present leaders who prescribe to this for no other reason than to demonize and divide does nothing but weaken the individual who believes in it.

We all know that some politicians are power hungry. The worst of these are ones that can persuade you into thinking that cat food is a delicacy.

Here is a definition of being a slave:

A person who is held in bondage to another; one who is wholly subject to the will of another; one who is held as a chattel; one who has no freedom of action, but whose person and services are wholly under the control of another.

The UK had jus soli before 1983. I understand very well what it means, and why the law was changed.

Statelessness in Europe may be traced in part to citizenship laws that reflect the principle of jus sanguinis, or law of the blood, by which citizenship is transferred based on descent from one or more citizens of the country of origin and not on place of birth (jus soli or law of the soil). When territory is transferred and/or when a new, successor State is formed, such as occurred in the former communist States, restrictive immigration and nationality laws may be enacted to expel and/or exclude people from citizenship based on ethnic preference. Lack of documentation and prolonged detention of undocumented foreigners who cannot be returned to their country of origin or of habitual residence also result in effective or de facto statelessness.

I guess anecdotal evidence is okay when it supports Steven's point of view

He also ignores that his mate Scandal supports it for obvious reasons. As Paul pointed out earlier, his parents were not permanent residents; which means in most other first countries, he would have to claim his Canadian citizenship. Because of this silly loophole, Scandal was basically able to uproot at 30 and move to the US.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Without the cut and paste feature that allows Steve to make his comments also shows how empty the container is that he lives in.

Considering his socialist views, I'm not even sure why he wanted to move here - Canada would have been a better fit.

More than likely to avoid the cost of his socialist ways.

 BY, you typically take anecdotal evidence to conclude some generalization or stereotype. Ron shared his personal story. I made no argument based on that but only thanked him for sharing it. And just like my former colleague who is Canadian with a Chinese wife, both non-USC's living here in the states for more than a decade, I was pointing out that such a scenario could be problematic for the parents of the children born here, of them being defacto, stateless. That's not an unrealized fear. It has happened in Europe. There are over 600,000 stateless people currently living in Europe. They have no country to call their own, let alone go home to.

I bet we'd be able to deport them a little better than Europe being that we don't have to deport them too far. Country to call home or not, they speak the langugage of the country just to the south of us and it's not like they can stop us from dropping people off if we really wanted to.

Problem with Europe, like most other proposals here in the OT thread, is they make all types of stuff illegal but then can't enforce it and say, "oh shoot. Fixing this problem just made us have another problem."

Only problem we'd have after deporting ALL of our illegals is we'd have to start paying higher prices for certain things again.

Can't we turn the stateless into our slaves?

No, cuz they would all go home.

See the 13th Amendment. I'm sure since the 14th applies to them the 13th does as well.
