My wife went through POE in Miami. She was held in secondary questioning for almost 8 hours because there was an error with her A-number. The officers there while being pleasant and polite seemed to have no interest in trying to get her through, and she waited and waited. Finally there was a female officer who noticed she had been there a loooooooonng time and she took her case and corrected the error in about 20 mins.

The other guys including the supervisor seemed very arrogant and appeared to enjoy having the authority to hold her. They didn't know their job at all saying first she would have to go back to the embassy and have them correct the number, then that she would have a "temporary parole" where she would be admitted as a non-immigrant with 30 days to fix this. Thankfully the other officer took her case, processed it and got her out with her full immigrant (IR1) status

I'm sorry about your wife's experience. That must have been really scary for her :(

My mom's A number is incorrect on her visa, but she thankfully, did not have any problems at POE.

if you'd like to complain, there's an official process about it..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thanks for the well wishes,

What is the complaint process? Is it on the USCIS website? I definately want to file something.

I guess it is the Customs and Border Patrol that I would be filing the complaint against

At my wife's POE in Anchorage they misspelled her family name on the I-94 entry ticket.

We had to waste a day to go to JFK to have the "Deferred Inspections Unit" correct it.

It took 5 minutes.

WOW, i'm very sorry to hear that! 8 hours! does this happen a lot in miami airport? i live in florida and would be afraid for my fiance to enter this country at that port of entry. hopefully it'll be newark or some such.

i wish you luck in filing a complaint! that's horrendous and frightening for someone with so much at steak at that moment.

Something similar happened to me at the San Francisco Int'l airport too, but I was held for 3hrs, not 8. Only took 20 minutes for them to check my bags, my camera and have me out of there too. Sheesh. Thank goodness I had a 6hr layover, so I didn't miss my connecting flight to Boise as a result.

Good luck with your complaint, I hope you guys get compensation of some sort, even if only an apology. :)
