TWO police needed hospital treatment and more than a dozen teenagers ended up in custody when a birthday party advertised online got out of control near Canberra.

Police from across the capital converged on the "dangerously overcrowded" party at Gungahlin, in Canberra's north, a largely a quiet dormitory suburb filled with medium density housing.

But yesterday night it erupted after the 16th birthday party had been advertised online, police said.

"Party organisers could not control the crowd and a decision was made to close the party and disperse the gathering," an ACT Policing statement said.

"Additional resources were requested to assist."

But the police were unable to break up the party attended by more than 200 young people at the local scout hall.

"A number of partygoers appeared intent on provoking violence against police, the statement said.

At one point a group of up to 30 teenagers charged police, forcing officers to defend themselves and their vehicles.

During the melee, two officers were injured.

One officer fell to the ground and was repeatedly kicked in the back while another suffered a shoulder injury.

Both were taken to hospital with 13 teenagers taken into custody for a range of offences.

"Investigations are continuing into the identity of the offenders who assaulted, resisted and incited violence against police at the party," the police said.

"This party was inadequately supervised, allowing a large group of underage persons to consume large amounts of alcohol and no planning was made in relation to getting people home," said Acting Superintendent Andrew Bailey.

Police are expected to lay charges.

it erupted after the 16th birthday party
This should be no surprise -- at some, most, or all of the first 15 birthday parties, at least a few key troublemakers must have gotten drunk, which we know leads to volcanic behavior, si man.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

This kind of stuff happens everywhere, although I'm sure someone is bound to show up here and say it would have been more violent if it had happened in the US.

Okay, lets summarize your dumb opinion up. Articles mean more than actual government data on crime.

If you are going to spend your valuable time finding articles, you can start by finding out when the last columbine occurred in an Australian high school. Find me when the last kid was bashed to death while walking home from school, as was the case in Chicago last year. Find me any town or city that has homicide rates even close to that of any similar US cities.

Have you lived or traveled outside Baawston? Clearly not, as someone who has, wouldn't be making these dumb statements. It takes some real 'talent' to assume an article is the same as actual stats. Someone has to also be challenged to not even think that I could post 100 articles for every one you post, based on incidents occurring in the US.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

And right on cue, it's Captain Kangaroo front and center.

This isn't my opinion, oh wise one, it's an article from the promised land. My opinion has nothing to do with the riot. You always change the subject. This incident happened in Australia, not Chicago. So, I'm the one making dumb statements? You always get so butt hurt when something bad is posted about your never to be home again oh so far away. Where I live and travel has nothing to do with this article, does it? Only someone psychotic would try to twist it that way. You really should consider getting some help. It's not healthy to be like that.

Some suggested solutions to this huge problem...

1. Ban teenagers

2. Ban 16th birthdays, at a minimum, go directly from 15 to 17. We can also eliminate 13 because it is unlucky

3. Register plastic teenagers

I'm not the one who doesn't grasp basic concepts. Once again, only a moron would not realize that if I wasted my time posting articles, the board would be full of these incidents, considering the frequency here.

In fact, there was a 70 person punch-on, involving a certain demographic's teenagers and various adults at the DC metro yesterday. ;)

Change the subject? #######.. Yeah I guess you are right, 30 teenagers being idiots versus a full out brawl of 70 [inc adults], in your nation's capital [yesterday]. Once again, if you had any common sense, you wouldn't be silly enough to actually attempt to compare, let alone using articles. However, you have illustrated time and time again that you have basically not left your street.

Here, you can even read about it on your local news:

Like I said, change the subject. You always have to change it to something about the US. I know, Australia has better crime than the US.

So why the push to ban guns but not boards or sticks?

You know, this really isn't a competition. Why do you have to make it into one? Personal attacks and insults are never appropriate and really add nothing either to the discussion or the points you are trying to make, so if you really think this topic about teenagers getting out of hand at an unsupervised party (which can happen pretty regularly anywhere in the world) is worth discussing, then discuss the topic but you don't attack each other.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
